View Full Version : GTT Results - Help with numbers please!

I received the results from my 3 hr glucose tolerance test and here are the results:

Start: 116 (after fasting all night)
30 min: 202
1 hr: 184
2 hrs: 106
3 hrs: 109

The nurse said (that the dr said) that I had glucose interolance, given the instructions to stick with the South Beach Diet, change one of my bp meds, and to report back in 3 weeks.

Can any of you help interpret these numbers (or at least give your opinions)? Thanks,

RitaB

Hi Rita,

How did you feel during the GTT? Did you feel ill, get a headache, or experience any other symptoms?

Your test result does not seem alarming to me, and IMO, "glucose intolerance" seems like an expected response ANYONE would have after drinking a pure glucose solution while on South Beach for several weeks! I truly think the test would have been more telling had you not been on the diet, but still perhaps insignificant. What was your fasting blood glucose 3 weeks ago before you started South Beach?

Regardless, your test results are high enough to be concerned about T2 diabetes, though they won't technically classify you as a diabetic unless your fasting bg is over 110, or a random bg test is over 126. Also, there is no evidence that you are hypoglycemic.

What stage of southbeach are you currently on? Do you eat carbs and if so how many? If South Beach is helping you accomplish your goals, by all means stick with it! if I remember, you had already completed the induction phase and were getting ready to start eating more carbs. How is that going???
