Has anyone have had this? It's a needle in your hip area, and all my joint pain and swelling is GONE. He said this will last 2 months until the plaquenil takes over. Within a day it worked. For the first time in two months I could get out of bed and walk..I feel 100% back to my old self.

No, but I have terrible hip and lower back & other joint pain sometimes... and though it takes me awhile to get adjusted... I can walk. Were you completely immobile? I'm not quite at a firm diagnosis yet...and only on Neurontin for pain... but I'm keeping your post in mind for my visit with the lupus specialist July 1st!

No, I wasn't completely immobile..but I was extremly sore in every single joint in my entire body..from my big toe to my fingers. I don't know why they don't give everyone this shot..wow. Maybe it's only available in Canada..I'm not sure...

Thanks for replying... I too get soreness in all joints - it tends to be most in hips, lower back, knee and elbow areas though. It feels as if my bones are bruised... my x-rays come out normal though...hmmm...
Anyway, I still am going to ask the doc about it! It's great to have these boards where we can post and help each other out! Keep us informed...
Take care...hewie

Hi ...
I haven't posted on the Lupus board before but I read your post on Depo Medrol. I agree that it does help so much and it's like a miracle drug. It's used for so many medical problems but if I'm not mistaken, it's a corticorsteroid. I've had the hip shot before and I felt so much better. It acts as an anti-inflammatory. However, the doctors won't use the shot very frequently because of side effects. I have SLE and my joint pain went away and I had energy. I had to be put on cortisone pills a few months later. They also help a lot but I was one of the unfortunate ones that became osteoporotic from the steroids. That's a whole other story.....
Didn't mean to butt into your conversation but I wanted to let you know that I know exactly what you are talking about. They relieve the pain and as my doctor said.....could one day save my life.....but in some patients, they do have a tendency to leach the calcium out of your bones. They also made me eat like a pig!
I'm so glad that you are feeling better. :)

I have had it in my hip and shoulders. It does help wonderfully. Unfortunately, If I remember correctly, you can only have it done a limited number of times within a certain time period.
I take oral Pred. 10 mg (along with other meds) and that helps alot; though it can have some bad effects on the body as oldbones described.
