I sometimes wonder if I have platoed (wrong spelling but I mean am staying pretty much static).
I am able to function pretty much normally now, not that you would catch me on a roller coaster or anything moving BUT I can do all the normal jobs and so forth. Not what you could call 100% but in the 90's and on a good day very close to 95%.
But I have these risidual symptoms: mainly I feel weird looking up and down for prolonged spells (longer than a brief glance). I will get either a feeling of motion, unsteadyness and sometimes almost a faint feeling  or that the room is shifting. The symptoms stop when I right my head and wait for it to pass. I also have a bother leaning far forward say cleaning down the counter tops in the kitchen etc. Likewise sitting typing on the laptop and when my head is semi forward can make me feel off and even dizzy in the head. These feelings are tranisnet and I can feel okay between times, more or less.
The good news is that the off balance is really very minimal now. :) This off balance thing is sometimes not there and for the most part very subtly off not like the massive I am walking on springs or a huge bouncy castle!! :D
Can you relate anybody?
Thanks and hope ou are all doing okay!! Ilia xx

Ilia,
I have all those symtpoms you mention, I think mine are just more frequent. The sense of movement seems to be associated with the feeling that my head is full of fluid. Got to talk to my new neuro-oto this week. He's a bit confused, but thinks I may have a couple of things going on. I asked if I could start VRT because I want to be aggressive so I'm supposed to start that soon. Have you had any luck with the VRT?

Yep, I can relate to that. I basically consider myself 100% , BUT when I look up, like looking for something in a cupboard, that sort of thing, I can get a little dippy in my head. And even if I am OK looking up, then when I look back to normal level I get that sensation in my head, even more so if I look down immediately after looking up - all pases in a few seconds but it is definitely there. Also when I lie down/sit up. I just never forget that this can come back full force. But otherwise I function just fine, and as for roller coasters, that never was my scene even before all this started - just the roundabouts with the kids when they were little. I wonder if the residual symptoms will ever go away completely or will there always be something - just like a scar after an operation, that sort of thing.
Hope you all had/are having a good day.

Hi Ilia
Sure---felt like I had plateau a number of times---of course it can happen differently for each of us---from the Univ of Penn/NIH web sites:
...."It is helpful to remember that in treating people with a damaged vestibular system -- the exercises mimic the movements that make them feel dizzy and lose their balance. After a time, the brain "learns" that the input from this activity is "normal" for the damaged system, and the side effects of dizziness and balance decrease.".....which is the importance of a broad VRT program religiously done and that "mimics" all the movements that make you feel dizzy-----
All the words are importent---however---think---..."side effects of dizziness and balance decrease"...... is prob the "truth"---about this---notwithstanding that----think---the final dance----at the 99.xx% level---on the "plateau"---lasts the longest--but one day---for most---that dance ends!!
My guess is that the improvements---are taking place---but are so incremental in nature---they are almost undetectable---for me at the end---that is the way it was---but still just a guess!

Awww thanks s much for that encouragment, really helps me so thanks. :)
Ohio :) - Good Luck with your neuroto, hope he has some good answers for you. I know you have the motion thing which I had too and it does pass........
Madeline :) - yes agree with all you say, very likely as you say a bit like a scar after an operation, fingers crossed though as like any scar over time it fades so its hardly noticable
Subs :) - firstly thanks for the spelling of plateau, knew my version looked a little off (much like my balance lol!). I think you are also so right about the 'truth' being it improves but may be there a tad, well I guess if I stick here that would be okay. I KNOW the VRT is my next line of attack.....................still freaks me though big time. I KNOW I have improved to heck only 6 months ago I would have thought it a minor miracle to be able to look after the kids or walk down the street, both things I do daily now without a 2nd thought.........
In all honesty I am still hopeful that I will get to 99% as I did before the decomp episode so I am thinking in that direction!! :D
am so glad you are all here for me (for us all!!) THANKS

Hi Ilia,
Most of the things you describe are things I spoke to my ENT about this week as I can still experience odd things like that sometimes. He seemed to think that they were merely residual symptoms that eventually disappear. He did stress the importance of VRT however and how important it is to carry on with the exercises until symptom free. I suppose cooking, cleaning and looking after kids is enough in itself!!
I'm certian that these last little, awkward symptoms will vanish for you - why shouldnt they?

Hi All,
Emys - thanks yep I can identify with all that you say, you have however gotten better but I know it seems painfully slow  and in bad patches virtually intangible. I think its the bad patches you should focus on to realise just how far you have come :) . You cope immensly well despite this ****! take courage form your determination :D and remeber this is a but a phase of your life and aint forever! xxxx
Lizzy - bless you, yep I think thats exactly right  , why the heck shouldnt this get better!! roll on the good days and feeling perfect again. I remeber that the VRT women said to me that during the recovery process your goal posts change, only a few months ago I would have considered my improvement to date a minor miracle and now I am looking for perfection..........................as I keep telling myself, patience timothy  !!
Wishing you both dizzy/weird motion free days!! Ilia xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Wouldnt perfection be lovely!!
I'm sure it will come Ilia. When I asked my ENT last week "It will go completely wont it?" his answer was "Of course, you're young(ish!!), fit and healthy, why shouldnt it?".
Hold on to that thought.
