hello, im 5 days post op. and i went to the dr. on tuesday for him to check the dressing. i had bunions for at least ten years im only 19 yrs. old~! i thought it was time for a change in my life so i took the surgery. when i saw the pin sticking out of my foot i thought no way i was going to let him take this out of me i dont think i can take the pain. i have a sustin type pin and im so afriad of getting it out of my foot. has anyone have a pin removed and is it painful? do they give you shots before they take it out? im so scarred? this is my first surgery and im so young. the pin has a green ball on the tip of it. the surgery wasnt painful at all but i vomit at least the first couple of days. and two days after surgery about 2.am in the morning i was in so much pain from the bandages being so tight. that really hurt alot!!! please help me with my fear of this pin. i need some one to talk to me who already been through this i have 3 weeks left to go till its out of me!! thanx
Having the pin removed is nothing compared to what you have experienced so far. The Dr. will rotate the pin and pull, it goes by just like that. I had two pins removed from my big toe. I felt the doctor grab my toe and the next thing I knew it was done - no pain. It actually felt better having them out. I did not watch the Dr. do this. I grabbed the arms of the chair I was in and turned my head away. You can do this and it will not be bad, I had no shots and no pain meds. Trust me, it looks worse than it really is. Best wishes. -eko

Like you, I was petrified of having the pin removed. In fact by the time I got in to the doctors office I thought I was going to faint. When the doctor removed the pin I didn't even feel it. No pain, nothing... Stay calm and you'll be fine.....

I had a pin taken out also. No pain whatsoever. I was grabbing on to my boyfriend's arm like crazy but afterwords I felt like kind of a dork. It didn't hurt at all. I honestly didn't feel a thing.

I had a pin removed from my little toe about 8 days post-op and i didn't feel anything either. I was really paranoid at first, but it felt more like just a weird sensation. Good luck!
