I would like to hear from anyone that has noticed any kind of change, in there sugar level. I switched to Lantus some time ago and it only lasted for 6 months, then my sugar level started getting out of control. I have just switched back to NPH and am curious the results and/or affects from anyone else.

Thanks in Advance......

I switched to Lantus about 6 months ago. I am also not very happy with the change. I thought it would be wonderful to only take it once a day. I am now seeing that it isn't controlling me like it should.

I started back taking it at night and have noticed that I feel high in the evenings. It isn't lasting 24 hours for me. I don't want to switch back to NPH either so I am going back to a pump in July.

I take lantus also. I am very happy with my glucose control. I take 50 units at night and my glucose readings are 70 to 80. It has never been over 110. It helped me get my sugars under control. This is the only med prescribed to me that really does it job without side effects. I wish my bp med was as good. :-)

Hi,

I've been on Lantus for at least one year and I also like it.

Mindy, sounds like we might be getting our pumps around the same time :). I should be getting mine soon and I'm VERY excited. Hope all is well with you and your family.

Sharon :)

Thanks Sharon... I am so excited. We are going to new insurance, finally, on the 1st. This one is a PPO so it should be much easier for me to get it. I miss that control!!!

I am so excited for you!! Have you decided which one you are going with? I haven't nailed the model yet but I am going with MiniMed. How wonderful all the way around!!

Quick Update > After several disputes with different doctors and finally taking things into my own hands, I switched back to NPH and after 30 some odd days, my sugar is back to normal, in the 110 to 125 range.

If your wondering, the last straw was my doctor and 2 additional doctors were not listening to me or taking into account the possibilty of the lantus not working for me. In addition they wanted to add another prescription to all the pills that I already take........(ACTOS - retains water - I never did)......I was pumping 120 units of lantus + 100 units (4x25units) of humalog a day.......I think and felt that I was killing myself with insulin.........

Bottom Line, listen to your doctors, but more importantly, LISTEN TO YOU GUT FEELING !!!

Hi Mindy,

I feel so bad...I just saw this post from you today. I'm sorry. I hope you see this...

I don't know if you've read my other posts about this, but I'm on the pump now and started on insulin Thursday and I LOVE it! I hope you can get back to it soon. I love Medtronics. The nurse trainer I have is wonderful. She's been a diabetic for 35 years and on a pump for 20. What company did your last pump come from? Also, Ruth and I are wondering how your son is doing so if you get a chance, let us know.

Sharon :)
