I've been on Neurontin for 3 weeks now and it's not doing on thing to help. I started with 300 mgs. once a day in the morning for 10 days and then increased to 300 mgs. twice a day, once in the morning and once at bedtime for 12 days. I was wondering if increasing from 600 mgs. a day to 900 mgs. a day might help or if I'm just wasting my time and need to try something new. Any thoughts?

I was on neurontin for about a year. The specialist was certain it was the only drug that would help me and he refused to prescribe anything else. I could be wrong here, but I don't think taking more will help you. The doctor kept raising my dosage until I was up to 3200 mg (400 mg tablets, 8 times per day) and I said enough with it! I was really tired and dizzy all the time. I finally decided I'd had enough of the stuff and I slowly cut myself back till I was totally off them. That was a long process. When I tried to cut back I couldn't sleep and night and just felt like this cold, clammy, anxiety type feeling (sorry, don't know how else to describe it )
Personally, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but maybe there's someone who can post a more positive note on the subject. :)

Thank you very much for your response to my post. I guess I'll discuss a change in medication with my Dr. when I see him next Thursday. May I ask if you've found anything that has worked? I've tried Lexapro, Zoloft, Xanax, Amitriptyline, Atenolol and now the Neuronton with no success. I just had Botox injections on Tuesday, but of course now I have to wait 2 to 3 weeks to see if it's going to work or not. I'm beginning to lose all hope.

I would love to tell you I've found the wonder drug but it hasn't happened yet. My headaches are caused from my neck and shoulder (the labrum and tendon are torn). They're both from a car accident. I too have been on Elavil among other things and they didn't work.

I have no family doctor so I take whatever they prescribe me at the hospital. I went into the hospital with a killer migraine a few weeks ago and they prescribed lorazepam (I think it's also called ativan) and tylanol /w codeine. I get really bad headaches mostly when I'm lacking sleep or when I just have really poor quality sleep and wake up feeling like every muscle in my head and neck is tensed up. Now, I take Ativan about an hour before I go to bed and it really helps me to relax so I can sleep. The only problem with it is that it's addictive. I figure I'll deal with stopping it when that time comes but for now I really like sleeping! :)

I think you're smart to tell the doctor you don't want to take neurontin. I've done a lot of searching online about it and it seems to be mostly bad news. I wish you best of luck in whatever your doctor decides on prescribing and if you find something that works let me know! :)

what is neurontin? I take elavil for my headaches, 20 mg is all I need for my headaches, tho I wonder why the daytime sedation effect never subsided as I took it for over 5 years for chronic daily nonstop headaches and touble sleeping good at night. I have been taking only 10 mg some nights but after a few days I have to take 20mg for a day or two because I don't sleep well sometimes,

but then I cut back when I start to suffer daytime sleepiness. but now I am on pressuer meds and wonder if they are effecting my sleep hard to get to sleep, tho I sleep good once I do get to sleep.

I am taking 900 mg. of Neurontin per day and it is helping so much. My migraines are caused mainly by my menstrual cycle although I had been getting more and more migraines not during that time. My only suggestion is that you give it plenty of time to work. Maybe 3 weeks isn't long enough...I'd give it maybe one more month.

Take care.
