View Full Version : Immune Nightmare - Hair falling out ! (SO SCARED)

Hi anyone out there !

I've just walked away from the bathroom mirror and cried (again)
My hair is falling out - it looks so thin (normal long , very think and red)
It is falling out everyday, more and more - I can, for the first time see daylight through it.
People are noticeing and commenting on it!
I'm getting more and more upset and worried about it.

They still havent got to the bottom of all my other problems (Disc damage, painful joints, Ulcerative Colitis etc - see my other posts)

My GP still thinks its an Auto Immune Problem - connecting all my things.

When I asked her about my hair she said not to worry (HUH) that it was just because my body is poorly and that it would grow back when they get me right!

This is little confort for me right now -especially when no Dr will agree with the other one and I feel like a ping-pong ball!

Does anyone else suffer from hair loss - is it really just due to stress ?
I couldn't be under more stress right now!

I cant bear to sit back and watch my "crowning glory" fall out.
Its devastating me.

It now looks so thin and sparce as it is long and stragerly looking.

I feel terrible and I look terrible too.

Anyone know what I mean?
Anyone can suggest anything to help ?

Hi Debbie :bouncing: - Um....see if I can remember them all !
Amitryptaline
Ozalazine
Predsol
Transtec Patch

It started when I was on steriods - but I have been off them quite a long time now - and my hair is getting worse and worse!

Hi there,

Amitryptaline can cause hair loss but it is a very rare side effect so its probably not that. I don't know whether you're still taking Predsol but I think Predsol is a steroid and steroids can cause hair loss. Hope things get better for you. Take care and god bless.

Debbie.

My doctor told me to take Bioten for hair loss:

Biotin is a water-soluble member of the B-complex group of vitamins and is commonly referred to as vitamin H. The biochemical acts as a carrier for carbon dioxide in the pyruvate carboxylase reaction, where biotin is linked to the epsilon-amino group of a lysine residue in the enzyme. Biotin is necessary for both metabolism and growth in humans, particularly with reference to production of fatty acids, antibodies, digestive enzymes, and in niacin (vitamin B-3) metabolism. Food sources for biotin are liver, kidney, soy flour, egg yolk, cereal, and yeast. There are suggestions that biotin is also capable of curing baldness, alleviating muscle pain and depression, and functions as a cure for dermatitis, although there is no substantial evidence for any of these claims. Biotin deficiency results in fatigue, depression, nausea, muscle pains, hair loss, and anemia.

I always had enough hair for 3 people until this past February. It started falling out at an alarming rate and it is now very thin and I have a couple of places that are bald. I am able to keep them covered over most of the time and have a hat to wear for times when I can't. I have rheumatoid arthritis and sjogren's sydrome. The dermatologist I saw said that inflammatory conditions can make your hair fall out. She didn't see any scarring on my scalp and said it should grow back eventually. She prescribed Olux foam and told me to take 5 mg Biotin a day. I have to say that while my hair isn't the way it was, the hairloss has slowed down. Now to get it to grow back.

Hair loss is ONE symptom of thyroid disease, tho alone its not enough to diagnose it. But mine was coming out by the handfuls also, before I got treatment. Go into your doc for a blood test. Then, if he says your normal, get those papers in your hands. This is a big political thing with them so dont waste time arguing, just get copies of your blood test results. (You have a legal right to them.) If the TSH is very much over 2.0 you are low normal at BEST, and really people in good health with working thyroids are closer to 1.0 with ranges in that field. Now, you may not have thyroid condition at all. lol But you could, and if ya do, you've got more good info in this little paragraph to get you started in a clear direction than you may realize. Good luck, this disease sucks but its manageable. Yeah, your hair becomes manageable too. :)
