Over the last few months I have started to develop large white spots on my chest, upper back and neck. It doesn't hurt, itch or anything like that... it just looks like I have a really bad tan! Since its summer time, I tan twice a week and tanning seems to make it more noticeable. I tan indoors and have been doing so for the last 3 summers and this has never happened before. I know its not the tanning bed. It could only be one of three things... high blood pressure medication (spironolactone) that I'm on that makes me photosensitive (or so they say), my birth control pills, or tinea versicolor (fungal infection of the skin... Ewww!). I did alot of research and I think I have tinea versicolor, but I could be wrong. Are big white splotches a symptom of photosensitivity? Being on the pill? Also, does anyone know of any treatments for tinea versicolor? I hear it grows in your scalp, so you should treat it with Selsun shampoo. Do you use it on your body too? I hear it causes dermatitus if you do. Ahhhh HELP ME!!

Hi! Well, It sounds like the same thing I have. I had posted a topic about the same thing and this woman Diana gave me this info on her post. Hopefully it will help you. Don't forget to check out her ebay product...I getting ready to buy some. It sounds like it will really work!
Hi,
My name is Diana. I had been a sufferer of tinea versicolor since my teen years, growing up in California, the sunshine state, just made matters worse. I've had my share of out breaks, some mild and other times, I looked smothered and covered with white spots. I had become frustrated that there was not a product available specifically for this skin condition. I had tried the Selsun Blue, hated the smell and my skin was red and irritated after using it.
In 2001, I started my research on this very subject, tested numerous antifungal agents, and applied for a patent. I wanted to develop a product that was safe, effective and easy to use. The products are a 13.8 oz bottle of body wash, a 7.1 oz bottle of body scrub and a 9.1 oz bottle of lotion. These products should last a few months. I went one step further and made the products pleasantly scented, much like the Herbal Essences. I was granted my patent in Nov 2003.
I have started my own business, and I am currently building a web site to promote and sell my product. A company in California has shown interest in perhaps licensing this product, so with any luck this product could be on the shelves at Wal-Mart in the near future.
In the mean time, I am going to make my products available on E-Bay.
My company name is Bare Skin Solutions INC. The 3 part skin care system, with loofha, will be available at an introductory price of $19.99 that includes the cost of shipping and handling. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5501647593
I appreciate you taking the time to read this e-mail. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me, and if you purchase my product I would definitely love some feed back. Perhaps some before and after photos. Thanks Again,
Diana Hauan

I know what your talking about! Last year I went on spring break wiht the girls, came back all tan and noticed I had their odd white spots in the center of my back. I never noticed them before and always was luck to get great even tans in the summer all my life. The spots actually spread to my sholders, down my chest and my arms. I thoughtit was just from the sun and it really didn't itch or bother me at all, so I kept tannign hoping it would go away. Eventually the summer ended fall came, tan faded but the spots stayed. I went ot my derma and he said its a skin fungus, genetic, not from being Unclean or anything. He gave me this prescription body shampoo called Loprox and some body cream ( if forget the name sorry) I had to apply the shampoo like 2x a week with a loofa sponge, and the lotion every night with a special applicator to reach the abck areas. A few months later the marks are gone and in time for summer! I ahve notcied, that my mother has gotten these spots an I have very light one on my legs, I'm keeping my eyes out on them. Go see a dermatologist and he/she can help you out!!! Hope I helped ease some worries
