Hey all,
My doc wants to put me on Paxil to help with all the anxiety I have with this head monster. Has anyone else had any experience with anti-depressants? Do they help the situation? Would they hinder VRT? Any insight would be great.
Hi there,
I have MAV and have recntly been put on anti depressants, they don't hinder VRT as i have been given exercises to do along side the anti d's.
So far so good, i've been on them two weeks and the last three days i've not been so dizzy and have been out and about more.
My doc did say give them six weeks to kick in properly though.

hi ohio
i have been on antidepressants for a year they r called zispin , mirtazapine or remeron, i think they have helped with the terrible anxiety and depression that this dizzy bought about, i feel i have some normalcy back regarding doing things again as i stopped normal everyday life things like taking the children to school, housework , cooking speaking with family and friends, i just couldnt do anything for a while and that is very frightening to loose ability and feelings........so when u feel that bad u'd eat crap.....this anti depressant is fairly new and has little side affects..........for me it has been an increase in weight ...........i did some searches on it and seems ok so do a search on paxil.......if u dont want to try that one ask for someother...........it wont interfere with the vrt...........good luck

Hi Ohio,
I've been on Cipramil (Celexa in the States) since January. I'm not on the full dose though - just half. This stuff was a God-send for me. I had really lost the plot badly by the end of December after a 4 month battering by labyrinthitis. The last straw was a horrible cold that hit me in mid December. I started getting hard core panic attacks and then these episodes of depression afterwards. It was easily the worst time of my life. Cipramil has allowed me to climb out of the downward spiral I was in and start to finally get well. I'm still on it and want off asap because I hate being on a drug but the doc reckons it's a one year deal. The idea is to get the nervous system out of the "loop" and used to a more normal way of functioning again. This is critical because it would be worse if you did nothing and let the anxiety become the "norm" for your body. Have a read of this post that Subs started. It seems serotonin may actually enhance your recovery by promoting new neural growth.

The only hesitation I would have is the Paxil itself. I've heard a lot of nasty stuff about "Paxil prison". Apparently it's very hard to get off of the stuff. But that could be bad press on the internet. Maybe you could also give either celexa or lexapro a go first (Lexapro is a cleaner version of Celexa and probably a better palce to start).
Let me know how you go.
Cheers.....Scott
