I had ankle surgery in February (Brostrom) to repair torn ligaments. I was in a cast for 6 weeks and a boot for 4 1/2. PT was going fairly well although I still have limited ROM. The last couple of weeks I have severe heal pain. My PT said its tendonitis and has went back to massage therapy and really laid off of other exercises. The doctor has seen me, he says its a set back but just to slow down a bit.

I am so frustrated. I have been dealing with this stupid ankle for a year and a half. I just want to get back to running. Now it feels like that will never happen. Plus I am back to being in a lot of pain and having trouble walking any distance.

Thanks for any comments.

I feel your frustration. I had a Brostrom in August 2003 and just this month started PT - 10 months later. Good new is that I have fairly quickly regained aome ROM and am now working on strengthening. I can't relate to your heal pain, but regarding the PT, I would think that even with tendinitis that you might still be able to do some flexibility exercises for your ROM. Your going to have think positive and be patient, it will come. There were times that I would get so frustrate with my situation that I'd just have a great big pity party, then something positive would happen and I'd get back on track. I wish you the best, feel free to vent on the board and if you have any Q's we'll do our bets to respond. -eko

I feel your pain. I had two surgeries on my ankle in the past year and now have also had a setback. I have been in pt for 3 mos and started having severe pain and popping, turns out my internal stitches are popping Have now been put in a total AFO brace and no PT for awhile. I did have some heel pain and they said it was a mix of the achilles contracture and tendonitis, resolved pretty quickly with some PT and steriod use. Good luck. What has your doctor told you??? Has he prescribed anything or stopped PT??
