I'm not sure how to explain this but please bare with me....

On the roof of my mouth you have a hard and soft pallate....where the two meet, near the molars on both sides, is there supposed to be anything "hard" in between? I am experiencing a pain the left "bony" part.......was curious if this bony thing is normal? and do others have pain in this are also? I've never noticed the bony things in my mouth before, but since I got TMJ I notice every little thing! thanks in advance!

Not exactly the same symptom as you, but when my tmj flares up the roof of my mouth in the soft part past the bony part gets swollen & sore, like a sore throat, but it's not the throat, its the soft tissue that is sore. it's usually only on my right side where my tmj is the worst. i can feel a bony thing on the left side, but not on my right side, maybe your right side soft tissue is swollen & you just can't feel the bony thing there, as I can't either. my tmj is flared up now too.

I have had what you are talking about. Mine lasted a few weeks and I was ready to pull the tooth out that was next to the hard lump there. It made it very hard for me to close my mouth and created pain along the gum line and under the cheek. It went away on its own - not sure why and I am not sure if it is part of the tmj problem or not. I showed it to an oral surgeon and he said it was swollen because or my improper bite. I'm not sure I really believe him yet ....
