I am new to diabetes and have had high blood pressure for years. I am on a diabetic diet and walking each day for 30 minutes, some times twice a day, weather permitting. I have noticed when I take my BP at home that some times, it is around 98/57 and other low numbers. I know it is because I am eating better and walking now. Have any of you that might have high blood pressure also started getting real low numbers? It worries me, but a nurse told me, they wouldn't worry about it, unless it gets down to 90/60 or below. When I see these low numbers it scares me then when I test again, it might be 123/78 or so. lol I am only on 5mg. of blood pressure meds; and none for diabetes. Thanks for any feedback.

We share a common problem! I was put on 5mg of Lisinopril, not for high BP, but for a kidney disorder. I did not have high BP tp start, and now my range runs from 85/50 to 100/60. I get really nervous when it gets that low, but they assure me that if I do not have symptoms there is nothing to worry about.
For the most part I do not have symptoms, but yesterday I had some minor palpatations and when I checked my BP is was 87/43  So I drank a bottle of carbonated water and took only half my lisinopril today. The carbonation in seltzer supposedly raises your BP - it does seem to work for me!
Because you are regaining control of your health, you may be able to get off the BP meds - you should ask your doctor.

Thanks for the advice. I also take Lisinopril, just couldn't remember how to spell it. lol I think I will try the carbonated water and see if it helps. My main worry is passing out from low blood pressure. I see my doctor next month, I'll see what he says about my blood pressure medicine. The 5mg Lisinopril is very easy to break into 2.5mg size, since it has a deep line in the middle of it.

Never had high blood pressure. But I think I have low blood pressure. Since i've lost 35 lbs and was dxed last oct 2003, I have been feeling light headed lately. My dr. told me to keep an eye on it and make sure I drink lots of water so as not to be dehydrated. I've always had lower blood pressure....even before dxed.

Just a small note:
Some foods can fiddle with blood pressure. For instance, garlic has a tendency to lower blood pressure. I stay on the low end myself....family trait from my mother's side. A few years ago I got caught up in the 'take garlic' thing since it's so good for the immune system. Well, that may be, but it also tends to lower blood pressure. It took me a long time to put 2 and 2 together. I felt better when I stopped taking garlic.....although I love it and the foods that have it in it. :D
Maybe doing a little research on the net for foods that impact blood pressure might be helpful.
