View Full Version : Office Chair recommendations??

I have been back to work about 1 1/2 months and have a very hard time sitting. I have a sit/stand option now but, find it not as productive. I process data via the computer pretty much all day and am in the market to find a comfortable chair to sit in. I have been looking at a chair with a cyccoxi(not spelled correctly??) cut out that allows the spine to free float. The problem is that I can order one of these chairs but have not way of trying it out ahead of time.

Anyone had any experience with one of these chairs or have any recommendations for a office chair that is spine friendly?

Oral steroids seemed to help some
2 Epidurals - didn't seem to help as much as the oral steroids

For me, the Herman Miller Aeron is the only thing I can sit in for any length of time. It is an absolutely AWESOME sitting experience. They are also awesomely expensive, but comfort for a bad back does have a price. I got the "fully loaded" model for $699 delivered. This model has forward tilt and everthing about it is adjustable to fit you.

It is a rather funny-looking chair, and doesn't look like what you would expect a chair in this price range to look like, but I'm telling you, there is nothing else out there that I can sit in without endless squirming. You can do a google search for "Aeron chair", and some real good deals can be had on eBay. They come in three "butt sizes": A, B, and C. You don't sweat in these things, as the mesh material lets in air, and I never really believed all the hype on these things until I finally bought one.

Now if only I could find a bed so comfortable! If you have some money to spend, I have tried many others but never found one THIS comfortable to sit in for long periods.

Any other questions on the Aeron, just ask away. These were originally designed for people to sit in for 8 hours a day, or even longer. But the comfort level is so high, my own bad back cannot sit in anything else.....

I appreciate the feed-back I received, but just wanted to bump this up and see if anyone else has been shopping recently.

Dee,

I'm in the same boat and don't quite know when I'll be going back, but very worried about sitting. I think it's real important to try before buying, as Daubie said she tried 10 ergonomic office chairs and found a regular straight back chair best ... so it may be a very individual thing. Any thing I would mail-order would have to be elibible for refund, IMHO.

herniated L4-L5, free frag with footdrop approx. 6-30-03 with a month of lower back pain prior to that
laminectomy/discectomy 07-14
I have 5mm herniation of L5-S1 on right side that is asymptomatic, no surgery recommended
