The New Girl

Hello, I'm new to this group, and I REALLY hope someone can help me. I've recently had my hair professionally dyed from light blonde to red...unfortunately, my hair is a dark maroon shade of red, rather than the orange-golden Mary-Jane Watson-esque red that I had envisioned. Now, my already fair skin looks terribly pasty and my eyebrows look practically non-existant. Is there anything I can do, short of having my hair stripped professionally, to lighten my hair? Will my hair fall out if I dye over it again??
Thanks a bunch!!!

Hi there.I color my hair at home ..I am dark brown and I color blonde..I color mine only ever so often ...I would wait at least a few weeks before coloring again..Is so so bad on your hair ..No ..It won't fall out if you do it again..but it will burn your hair up and you will have split ends bad.as long as you have only colored twice.I would think repeatingly coloring would probably make you loose much hair. But if you do color right of..maybe a small trim after to help cut off split ends. And use good conditioner ..Pantene is what I use helps ..reduse fuzzy split ends.If you wanna do email with me and explain the subject better let me know.:-) ..I will help out as much as possible..Cause we all like to look and feel our best.Hope I helped .W.VgirlinIowa

Hi,
Uh.....no, it won't ruin your hair if you have it coloured again. Actually, I'd suggest you go back to your hairstylist, explain that it's really too dark and ask her to put a few hilights in the front (to lighten it up). She can use a low level peroxide with bleach, and hopefully stop when it reaches a lighter golden red.
The next time you have it coloured suggest that you want it more on the warmer gold/orange side rather than cool violet/maroon red.
If you're wanting to continue colouring from your salon....the Redken Shades EQ are awesome. Their coppers and apricots are beautiful. Shades is a demipermanent colour that uses only a 7 volume peroxide. You can use it over bleaching, before bleaching....
You can request a bright light red over what you already have and it should optically lighten it quite a bit. Golden shades reflect more light....so that could also be an option if you're not wanting to go for hilighting with bleach. Hilighting can also be done with colour.
The hair isn't that fragile unless it's in bad condition to start with before colouring. Repeated colouring doesn't make you loose hair. If it's done properly, it should look natural, vibrant and remain in good condition. Many home hair colourings end up back in the beauty salon because of improper procedure.
Go back and see if it can be adjusted to suit your colouring. It may have been a communication error of what each expected with your colour. Let us know how you make out.
Best to you,

when i used to dye my hair alot, i would very often dye it a couple times a month. it never caused any major hair loss. but i wouldn't say it's too good for your hair. if you're going to try and make it lighter and want a specific color, i would go back to the place you originally got it done and tell them to fix it. if you told them a specific color and they did one totally different, they should fix it for free. one the other hand you may just need to let it fade a little possibly. good luck.
