View Full Version : Follow up from my earlier post

I wanted to follow-up with ChrisJ and all of you that helped me in my earlier post about my efforts to get into a dr who would order the ACTH stim test.

Well, I had the appt with the dr two days ago that came recommended as a "top doc" from a thryoid website I frequent.....she is either a genious or a quack - I can't quite tell yet. Aside from being so hyper and talking so fast about everything under the sun EXCEPT my adrenal glands, she finally did get around to giving me the 24 hour saliva test kit to take home and do...not the ACTH stim I was hoping for, but I don't mind starting w/this since it's the only "levels" test I haven't had anyway. I thought maybe I'd go ahead with this and keep my appt in 6 weeks and ask her at that time to order the stim test - if she refuses, I'll just not go back, because she really seemed pretty off the wall.

What is your opinion of the saliva test? Although it will be interesting to see how my cortisol levels fluctuate throughout the day and night, it still doesn't give the picture of how my adrenal glands do under stress...which if I had to guess, is not well at all, going by symptoms.

Oh well, I'll mail it off and post the results when I get them - I'm not waiting for my 6 week follow-up for the results, I'll call in a couple of weeks and have them fax my results to me. Thanks, everyone, for past advice and support - oh, I did mention my concerns about Sheehan's Syndrome, and gave her the story of the my terrible delivery and hemorraging....she had nothing to say and now that I think about it, I wonder if her silence has anything to do with how much it looks like the ob/gyn's fault that I bled as long as I did since noone could find a shot of pitocin anywhere for all that time....I certainly wasn't placing any blame, just very suspicious that I had all the symptoms and concerned that what I went through could have caused permanent damage to my pit. gland...but she said nothing and I didn't pursue it...hmmm...
