Hi. I had a thread going about my son complaining that his penis hurt...well, I took him back to the doctor yesterday after he finished his antibiotics, because they didnt do anything. The doc said now that he thinks my son may have a staph infection. So he gave him some new antibiotics (( dicloxacillin )) but he gave it to him in capsule form because the liquid is too diluted and he thinks the capsule form will be more effective. He told me to open a capsule and pour half of the powder into jam and give it to my son that way. however, my son almost threw up eating it. I tried giving it to him in his milk, he wouldnt drink it. I tried it in some pudding, he wouldnt eat it. Does anyone have an suggestions as to what I should do to get him to take it? The medicine smells absolutely horrible and im sure it tastes horrible as well, so I cant blame him for not wanting to eat it but he needs to. Should I call his doctor and tell him that he just wont take it this way or is there something else I can try? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I have heard yogurt hides the taste of some medicines (if you havn't already tried that). Also apple sauce and ice cream. I personally have not tried these but I found them on another board.

Hope this helps!

We have a couple medicines we have to give ds, who is a year old. We sprinkle one on baby food bananas or applesauce. Other think you could try is mixing it up with ice cream, pudding, mashed fruit. Putting it in an oral syringe and squirting it in his mouth, pocket of his cheek. We've found that putting a small amount in with some fruit or using a syringe works the best 'cuz if you add it to milk or mix it in with large amounts of food, he won't eat in and possibly will associate the bad taste with the food.

We have some vile smelling vitamins and liquid zantac that we just shoot directly into his mouth 'cuz there's no disguising those.
