View Full Version : Free Psychological Evaluation/Counseling?

Hi,

My life is pretty much one big mess. There really isn't one aspect that is completely good or that I can use as a "silver lining" to think about to make myself feel better. I admit that I am the one responsible for it all - no one else created all of these problems. I know I am the only one who can fix them all but I have no idea how to. I wish I were the type of person to just take charge and handle it all. But I literally don't know where to begin. Lately I've been thinking that maybe I need to see a psychologist or something to figure out what is wrong w/ me and really get to the root of what's holding me back from creating the life that I really want. So rather than going on and on about all the specific problems of my life I'm here to ask if anyone knows where I can go for an evaluation or counseling - - - and here's the kicker - - - for free. It needs to be free b/c I have been unemployed for a really long time and have subsequently burned through almost all of my savings. (I live in the Atlanta, GA area if anyone happens to know about that area specifically.)

Thanks.

NO. I live in TN. You might try DHS in your area. Or, maybe a larger church may have a trained counsler on staff.

I don't know anything specific in Atlanta but try these sites:

Best wishes!

Colleges and Universities might be a good resource. If they don't offer counseling they might be able to point you in the right direction. And maybe there are state or federal programs out there that might be available to you considering your economic situation. Finally, try your local library for information.

Good Luck.

I Agree- check out your local universities. I am a psych student in Michigan, and we offer free psychological services in our Psych clinic on campus. It gives us some hands on, supervised training and is a very useful service for those who cannot afford to pay up the "wazoo" for psychological services.
