I have had these weird pains after eating for about a year now. They are in the middle of my back. It only happens about once a month, but when it does, watch out. The pain is so severe, worse than anything I have ever experienced. It mostly happens about 3-4 hrs after I eat while I am in bed. It wakes me right up. Now it is to the point where i feel a dull steady ache in my middle back. Oh yeah, I had an abdominal cat scan which was negative and my doc says all liver, pancreas, gallbladder are fine on the scan. Liver blood work all fine. However, he still wants to HIDA scan next.. But throughout this whole thing, I never get abdominal pain, just that horrible back pain in the middle/right of my back. Any ideas what it could be? And to add to the difficulty of what this could be, the other day it happened and I felt it in my back but it went up into my neck/jaw area. WEIRD. And I know it is not my heart since I just had stress test. HELP!

Hard to know for sure, but could be severe GERD (have you had an endoscopy done) or gall bladder (even if your tests are "normal", your gall bladder could still be the problem). Hang in there - your doctor will find an answer.
