Hello,

I know not to worry about every lump and all that. I am a Mom of Six and this one is new to me. I have had swollen lymph nodes and such, but have never seen anything like this.

*My 2 year old (the youngest) the other day when I was washing her hair I noticed a small bump behind her yes right ear. Which was not there the night before. I have been watching it everyday and now it is much bigger and a second one has now formed right next to it. I would say it has been about 4 days since the first one. She has not been sick lately and has never had an ear ache (thank God)! SO I am not sure what this is. With it getting bigger everyday and now another one has me worried. It thought I would give it a couple days before I went to the doctors, we all know how that would have gone. So now the soonest I can get her in is next week.

*Oh one more thing, we moved and have pulled 3 small ticks off her from being in the woods. They were Lone star ticks. Only one of them was filling up from sucking the others we found and got off right away. Could this be why the lumps? The ticks were not near were the lumps are. Everything I have read on the ticks would not make lumps in other areas. SO I am not sure.

* I checked the lumps and they are fixed and hard. When I pressed on them she did not seem to mind I guess, so I think they don't hurt.
Anyone have any ideas????

Thanks so much for helping me figure this one out...
Blessings

I am not sure, but my guess is that it is indeed related to the tick bites. It does sound like some type of infection to me. Last year our dd had this same thing, on her neck, and when I took her to the ped the next day she tested postive for strep, with no other symptoms. You never know.
Let us know what they say.

I know how you feel. About a month ago I was looking in my 5 and1/2 month old daughter's ear, and while I was doing that I also noticed a B-B sized bump right behind the top part of her left ear. It made my blood run cold and I was scared to death. I got her into the doctor and was assured it was only a lymph node and is very common in babies. She said it may go away and it may not. Of course she told me to watch it, and call her if I noticed any changes. But I bet the tick bites are your trouble.
And I tell you this because I have a similar story about our oldest daughter. One night she had slept with us and when I rolled over and saw the area behind her ear I could not believe my eyes. There were two huge knots. I tied to bring them to my husbands attention without scaring her to death. I showed him.. Needless to say we were in the doctors office that afternoon. Before we got there they had spread all the way down her neck. I knew it had to be infection because they had came up so quickly. But as you can imagine, that did not make me feel any better. And listen to this. There I was in the doctor's office trying my hardest to figure out what was going on. We go back to the room, the doctor comes in.. immediately looks at her glands, looks at her ear. And low and behold asks me "What is this?" He is referring to a moonshaped tinsy tiny scratch that was put there and forgotten SEVERAL weeks before by a puppy we had at the time. I had forgotten all about her getting scratched because it was such a small place. But that small place is how it all got started. Even though she was scratched by a puppy, he diagnosed her with Cat Scratch Fever(his reasoning being that we had some cat's outside and whatever causes that must have gotten under the puppies toenail-Get my drift?)
I hope you don't mind me telling you this, but one night before bed I was rubbing her head (she was 3 at this time) and I noticed a little lump. Of couse the very next day after some searching (she had and still has a lot of hair) I found the culprit myself...
A tick. I took her to the doctor and got some medicine and in no time the infection was all GONE. I know I kind of skipped around but I just wanted to let you know I've been there. I know I always feel better to hear of other experiences that have had similar experiences. By the way since I skipped around on you the Cat Scratch Fever
was also taken care of with antibiotics. It took awhile because of all the infection but everything turned out OK. Let me know what you find out and I hope everything goes alright.

My 4 year old actually had a lymph node removed from his neck when he was 2 because they suspected cancer. He had a very large lump on the side of his neck. I took him into the Dr and they decided to remove it just in case. They also removed his tonsils and adnoids. His tonsils were huge even though he showed no signs of illness.

They told me that enlarged lymph nodes can take up to a year to come back down. Sometimes, the lymph node itself can become infected and grow large. In our case, it was a very large reactive lymph node that swelled up due to the tonsils.

I would go in and get it checked out but I would not worry too much. Good luck
