Hey everyone, how are you, having better days I hope!!
Well I went to see the specialist yesterday and it went wonderful. First off everyone on staff was so nice and helpful. The doctor was amazingly sweet and made me feel very comfortable. he was complimenting me on my eyes and telling corny jokes :) which was very comforting. he explained everything he was going to do before he did it. they have these really comfy big leather chairs too!! I told him about the other guy and how rude his staff was to me and he said "If anyone of his staff is EVER rude to me I want to know IMMEDIETLY, because I do NOT TOLERATE THAT!!"
they took X-rays, did a sonogran, measured bite, and pressed everywhere on my face neck, head, and jaw. he pressed on one side of my jaw and it hurt so bad I was crying. He was so sweet and kept apologizing to me, and promising he would never do that again.
he said I have a slight deviation in my nose bone which is probably nothing to worry about but I should get it checked out. he also said I have the beginning of gum disease so need to go back to dentist. he said I have beautiful healthy teeth, something he doesn't see very often. He also wants me to see a neurologist just to be on the safe side. he said my joints looked great also!!
his diagnosis, temporal tendinitis and something else which was too technical for me to remember. He said my condition is very fixable which gives me some hope. As for treatment, they did impressions for an oral appliance which i am to wear 24/7 he said I can take it out when I eat, but most people don't because it is very comfortable. also I will go for therapy twice a week for the first four weeks and once aweek after that. therapy consists of Ultrasound, Thermophor, and EGS. he is also sending me a TENS unit so I can manage my pain without medication. this is stage one treatment and it last approx 8 weeks. he didn't explain stage II because he said there is a 90% success rate with stage one. He also said they are very very conservetive about EVER doing surgery (which I would never even consider) he was very good at explaining everything and answering all my questions. it will take about two weeks for me to get my appliance. It's not an acrylic or soft, it is like part acrylic, part metal, he said that it is one of the best appliances out there and I won't even know I have it in...anyone ever had one of these??
Well, I have hope now, which I haven't had in months.....

Raquel - was wondering if you could provide the name and address of your new dentist? Thanks.

Wow, thats great! Finding someone so sympathetic is half the battle. Do you have really excellent dental coverage or is this all out of pocket? My guard, which I haven't got yet (this week, cross fingers) was $450, I paid $150, but I think the grinding down on my teeth is included in that.
