I stopped my Seasonale - the last one I took was on July 1. I stopped it because of 3.5 weeks of breakthrough bleeding that I felt was intolerable. How long after you stop taking bcp will it take for the bleeding to stop and your body return to normal?

Your body is having a period. I would think that you would have to go through a complete cycle for your body to be itself again. When I went off the pill mid cycle because I was sick of break through bleeding, I really regretted it.
I had the worst period ever. It was like I was hemmoraging.(spelling?) Wearing pads from spotting seemed so insignificant compared to this. My next period was totally normal and I went to using a diaphram.

Thanks for your reply. Had I just been spotting I would have continued on the pill. This was a full blown change your pad every 2 hours clots included period that I was getting. The pill was supposed to avoid that but it didn't so I stopped it. I now am worried because I've been off the pill for 2 days and I see no change. It is not any worse but it is not any better. If this is my normal period that I'm getting, will I bleed 7-8 days (as I normally did) before it stops? That will make a total of 36 days of bleeding...since June 8. Did I do irrepairable damage to myself in taking a continuous bcp? I should mention I will be 40 in August and I have a fibroid. I've had them before and had a myomectomy 4 years ago to take them out.
I'm just really scared that this isn't stopping. Is a hysterectomy the only answer now.

Hi - I will be 40 this year also and also have 2 fibroids. I have them out twice before and they do come back. This could also be contributing to your bleeding problems. I've still yet to figure out if my bleeding problems were from the pill or the fibroids. I would imagine it is a combination of both.

Terri, I've read your stories here too that you've posted. Are you still having bleeding problems with your new pill? how are things going for you now?

Hi - The bleeding finally stopped, but I had to double up on my birth control pills in order for that to happen. Currently I take one in the morning and another one in the evening. My GYN would eventually like to see me get down to 1 pill a day, but I'm afraid of what will happen when I do that. So far with the double pills I've had no bleeding for almost a month and I'm enjoying it! I think I'm going to go off at the end of this week and take a 7-day break and see what happens. Then go back down to the 1 pill. She wrote me a prescription for Necon 1/50 and would like me to try that for a cycle and then go back down to the 1/35 again.

Dear Terri & PC82:
Both of you should read the book by John R. Lee called "What your doctor may not tell you about premenopause". Premenopause can start as early as 30 years old. One of the symptoms is fibroids, heavy bleeding and a list of about 25 other awful things.
In his book he tells how you can stop getting fibroids and heavy bleeding. All of his suggestions are with over the counter vitamins, supplements, nutrition/diet, exercise and natural progesterone cream. He warns how quick doctors are to give women hysterectomys for heavy bleeding.
His suggestions along with those from Ann Louise Gittleman's book called "Before the Change", have significantly helped me. My doctor just kept putting me on the BC pill which did nothing.
Doctors never suggest taking vitamins, supplements or anything that is not a prescription.
Please read these books, I am sure that they will help you immensely.

Hi Terri,
I see that you are planning on the hysterectomy in September. My dr saw me today and put me on OvCon50 for 1 month, told me to take the blank 7 day week as well. Next month then I'll do OvCon35, and if I survive the 2 months OK, then she will put me on continous Ovcon 35.
She did order an ultrasound on July 26 to see how my fibroids are. These could be causing my bleeding. I was happy last night because I had a whole night of NO bleeding, it just went away. But It came back today.....
She gave me several options. The fibroid is such that it can be removed on an outpatient basis. I asked about Uterine Artery Embolization. She said that the main side effect is post op pain. You know if a dr is telling you it's painful then it's probably not very fun. She said that you will still get your period after this procedure but it will be very light. It will also not allow you to have children. My question - why would I want to continue to have periods, however light, if I"m giving up the ability to have children? Do you know if this is true about UAE?
She said the same thing for endometrial ablation - you will still have some kind of monthly bleeding but be unable to conceive.
So to me - if my fibroid can be removed outpatient - I have the option of doing that, knowing that they probably will return but maybe at that time it will be closer to menopause where they will shrink on their own - or I can have a hysterectomy and have a 100% solution.
It S***S to be a girl sometimes.
