View Full Version : Zoloft

Last October, I was diagnosed with depression. They were quick to put me on antidepressants, and they put me on Zoloft - thus the thread title.

At first, it worked like a charm. I even lost 20 pounds, very rapidly. I'm talking a month or 2 rapidly.

But in January the effects just stopped coming. I even started gaining weight again.

And this was just an endless cycle, sometimes it would work like a charm, others it would just not work.

They've upped my dosage from 20 to 50, 50 to 75, and now 75 to 100. I just don't feel like this is really right for me.

I'm afraid to go up to 200mg, and I'm also afraid to admit it's not working very well.

Should I just stop taking the medicine alltogether, or keep taking it because it might just be me, or what?

Thanks for any help you might offer.

The effect of Zoloft (or any antidepressent) does start to wear off (for most people), unfortunately. I wouldn't want to take more than 100 mg./day myself, because it was a serious medication. Perhaps you can try a different SSRI? Is there anything else that helps your depression (exercise, eating healthy--not a lot of processed foods, meditation, etc.?) I agree with you that staying on an antidepressent long-term (unless a very low dose) and continuing to up the dose isn't the best of ideas, but I'm not sure what will be your solution :(
