But my doctor tells me paxil and wellbutrin cannot mix yet ive heard TONES of people mixing the two wwith permission of their doctor of course. anyways how can i convince her that itt is ok to mix the two? i mean if so many people do it i do not see why i cant?

I just did a search of drug interactions on the net & there shows none for these two meds. The only thing I can think of is maybe they are of the same family & so similar that it would put you way high on dosage by adding wellbutrin. What is the reason your doctor gives you?

If I were you I'd consider myself lucky to have a diligent doctor who doesn't blindly and carelessly hand out prescriptions!

I know this is not what you want to hear, but if you read through these posts, you'll see that a huge number of people suffer through some very severe side effects whilst on these drugs and then even more when trying to quit them!

These drugs are very potent and are causing a lot of harm for a lot of people. Nobody even really knows what they are doing to the brain.

You're lucky you're doing okay with the Paxil (do take care when you decide to go off of it) ... so don't start looking for problems for yourself by adding even more dangerous chemicals to the mix.

I commend you on wanting to quit smoking. Why not do some research into non potentially harmful alternatives such as cognitive behavioural therapy, accupuncture or even hynotherapy?

Sorry, but I'm totally behind your doctor, she's a good woman!

Please be careful. Good luck to you!

I am not sure about Paxil and well, but I know of some people who take prozac with well and it works really well.
I was on Paxil for three years and it was heck coming off of it. I swithced to Lexapro and quit that, but after 6 months I just started taking Lexapro again.
Talk to your doc, but the best way to quit is cold turkey.
That is how my mom quit after 35 yrs.

I agree with Sandella's post. Also, why are you thinking wellbutrin and not a nicotone patch/system of quitting?

Or, why not cut down gradually the amount of cigarettes a day over a period of months? My husband quit cigs, cold turkey, without any pharmaceutical help; it was tough for a short period but he made it through just fine so pharrmaceuticals are not a necessity for quitting nicotine. However, I wouldn't recommend such an abrupt/shocking course for you, though, since you are taking Paxil which effects the brain/nervous system and could cause nicotine withdrawals to be harder on you, possibly.

Look it up yourself, in a med book or on line. Then print it and show it to her. Some Drs. do not like to be told what to do. cth :)
