In 1999 my left eardrum perforated while flying with a head cold. The whole heald but ever since then I here popping and crackling noises in both of my
ears. the ENT.s say that there is nothing wrong with my ears. They give me different antibiotecs, different nasal sprays, and different deconjestents.
They don't work. 6 months later I feel a burning tingling pain in my left ear. That's the ear that perforated. The ENT.s find nothing wrong with my ears.
They give me the same treatment as before and the pain goes away. In 2002 the burning tingling pain in my left ear came back. the ENT.s find nothing wrong
with my ears. They give me the same treatment. The burning tingling pain does not go away. They do diferent CT scans and different X.rays of my ear and
neck. They find nothing wrong. They think it might be tmj. I go to my dentist and he makes me a flat splint. But without and MRI. he's not sure that I
have tmj. The burning tingling pain goes away. 4 months later the burning tingling pain in my left ear returns. The dentists gives me Vioxx. The burning
tingling pain in my left ear goes away. In april 2003 the burning tingling pain in my left ear returns. In july I do the tmj MRI and my tmj joint is fine.
I tell the dentist about the MRI. being normal. He says I should go to a neurologist to see if I have a pintched nerve. The neurologist says that I do
not have a pintched nerve. I get an MRI of my brain and it is normal. On october the burning tingling pain spreads to my entire body not just my left ear.
If I'm standing or sitting for long periods of time the pain increases all over. I have less pain if I'm laying down. The neurologist gave me Neurontin
and abiproferin for the burning tingling pain. It helps a little. The neurologist gave me different blood tests and they are normal The Dentist made me an MTI Splint and a Gilb Splint but they did not work. The Dentist gave me flexeral . It helps a little. Now I'm seeing a tmj specialist that uses the flat splint, alpha stim, iontophorosis, and trigger point massage. I'm still in burning tingling pain in the entire body and I still here the popping crackling noises in both ears. Please help!

I had the same burning pain in my left ear, and sometimes hypersensitivity and stabbing, and eventually some numbness. Neuralogists finally diagnosed it as Geniculate Neuralgia (trigeminal neuralgia is much more common, and if you want to find a specialist, I recommend using "trigeminal neuralgia" as the search tool). Medications worked for several years, and when they lost effectiveness, I ended up having a Microvascular Decompression surgery, which helped enormously.

I was going to suggest trimengial neuralgia as well (or that it definitely sounds like this is nerve related) - surprised the neuro did not consider it. You may want to try tegretal as a concervative treatment option - as the previous poster stated - the meds sometimes work.
