Doc put me on Prozac on 6/25. I was feeling great for about a week and then...nothing. I've been depressed (again) for the last 4-5 days. Is this common? Will the drug kick-in again? Why did this happen? I'll be following up with the shrink on 7/11.

mikey - a similar thing happened to me. i'm on lexapro, and i felt great after about 2 weeks. this lasted for about 2 weeks and then it was a steady decline. my doc upped my meds last week and i'm feeling great again. i'm just hoping that it won't go downhill again.

MikeyB - Everybody's different, but I can give you my experience with Prozac. I was on it for almost ten years - I thought of myself as a sort of Prozac "guinea pig" as I started just a couple of weeks after the FDA approved to drug back in the 80's. I can't say that I ever felt "great" on it - I think the depression had so totally taken over there WAS no great. However, I did come to trust other's assessments of what it was doing for me - my mother's, my therapist's and my psychiatrist's - as long as I was honest about how I was feeling and what I was doing. I realized that what it did for me was to "even me out" - things weren't quite so extreme. For me and my issues, it was enough to let me do some other work. Maybe it's a good idea to hear what your doctor says...

Thanks, penguin  . The other thing is that I had a rather "challenging" Saturday with my father, a needy, draining, active alcoholic. Perhaps the emotional pain associated with that is overshadowing the effect of the medication.
