Hello,
well I have taken the plunge and have surgery on Friday the 9th ( also happens to be birthday )),,
I have the right big toe bunion, straighten big toe, and straightenlast three toes and fix the tailor bunion,,,
the only toe not worked on is the one next to big toe,, but that could change,,
I am told it will last 2,5 hours,,,
I am a 'weeeeeeeee' bit scared.
I get a screw in the bone at base big toe and wedges cut out of the toes to straighten them.
I am getting IV sedation,, I dont want to hear or remember any of this!
AND I dont want to wake up nauseated,,
I will be praying for all who have surgery soon,, keep me in yours!

I wish you the best of luck!
That sucks that it has to be on your birthday. What a birthday present. But then again, it could be a great thing to have better looking feet! Hope everything goes well. :bouncing:

Good luck! I would take the IV sedation over general any day! So good choice... Yea, I don't think I would like having surgery on my b-day.. but look at it like you're getting your foot fixed for your b-day present.. :) Happy early b-day!!!

:) Best wishes with your surgery! You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. I'm now 3 1/2 weeks post-op. You're wise to take the IV sedation. You won't have to worry about nausea afterwards. Please let us know how you are doing. This is a great forum to share, vent, and get support

Well, friday the ninth was the first available date and I knew that if I thought about it I would soon dismiss the thought of the 'cutting'.
Soooo, I just went for it.
Hey , maybe we can ALL be FOOT MODELS now that we have beautiful FEETS!!

I had IV sedation (with a spinal) for my surgery because I wanted to breathe on my own, and it was a good choice. The anesthesiologist told me that most people are in and out during surgery with sedation, but I think that because I was so anxious, both my OS and the anesthesiologist made the executive decision to give me a big dose! My procedure lasted 2.5 hours, and I was still out for another hour in recovery. I never woke up during the entire thing, and unlike my wisdom teeth with sedation, I don't remember the exact moment I was out. This time, it was a little fuzzier! Are you getting a spinal too?

WELL,,,
after not eating much on Thursday and of course nothing after midnite,, I got up Friday with a terrible headache and growling stomach.
Surgery was scheduled for 1 pm but I had to be at the facility at noon.
I got there and filled out papers again, then went to the prep room.
I guess I thought husband would come back with me,, but he was not allowed.
I did , however, bring my Rudy the Moose, because he is soft and feels like my fat cat. It was the first time , I was told that a moose had come in with a patient for surgery,,
I remember crying a little and the anesthesiologist said to bringhusband in,
Husband came back in and we had prayer,, then I got the Versed and that is all I remember,,,, just moose and me in surgery,,
The anesthesiologist was "dr Anna" and she listened to me and heard my concerns and listened to what I told her about the drugs I was given for my heart ablation. She gave me the same I bet .
When I woke up,, I was hard to wake up I was told,,
I remeber looking at all their faces and it looked like everyone of the staff had on VERU UGLY shirts with vertical orange and black stripes!! I remeber trying to laugh at them and they of course were laughing at me!!
HUsband said I looked so drunk and was trying so very hard to smile and be 'awake' but I just was terribly funny( funny looking !!).
I got home at 4 30 pm or so,, foot was still numb from the local.
Saturday-- foot still numb from local-- great!!!
I used a walker with wheels to scoot around ,, I stayed in the basement family room,, crawled down the stairs,,
Now Sunday morning,, I though tI was going to church,,
not a chance,,
this bone pain started in and WOW!! I took halves of oxycontin and all I got was a nasty itching that was horrible.
So I had some Tramadol ( ultram) for back pain and started taking halves of that with some Phenergan to prevent any nausea that may occur.
BAAAAD PAIn Sunday,,
so I was a 'drunk monkey ' all day,
Nor MOnday I went to doc appt to get the dressing changed and get xrays to make sure foot was set correctly,,
and I got some Darvocet for pain since I am allergic to oxy,,
And I did not want to stay on the Tramadol for more than a day or so,
So not its Tuesday and this foot is SORE and feels a little tight,, but overall, all is well!
I am going to slide over the side of the bathtub and take a quick wash,,,
I know I will feel better,, and put on clean jammies that my ( 84 year old ) aunt bought me from JC Penney's,, very cute with froggies on them -- they look like lounging suit,,
Aunt says that with these I can be "dressed for any visitors" and still be comfortable!!
Isn't that a loving aunt????
She makes me feel so special!!
At any rate, I have a cute little narow foot now,, and STRAIGHT TOES!!!
My feet have been so UNCOMFORTABLY WIDE for years,,, I am so glad to get this done and cannot wait to get the other matching foot done!!
How do we post before and after pictures?
Guess I can write to administrator,,
Thank you for your prayers,,,
Get this done ,, if you have been putting it off, do it now!! I wish I had done it last year,,,,
NOW, to convince myself to get the back and neck surgery done,,, well, that is a different saga,,
God Bless,
dusty

HI Dusty,
I'm so glad to hear that everything went well for you. Don't push yourself too much and as far as going out, wait till you are really sure you are up to it. I was weaned off of the crutches last week and thought I would go out to dinner the same night.HAHAHAHA I sat, ate and went to get up to leave, yea right...I had to sit back down and said I can't do this. Good thing I was with my boyfriend and not my kids, I used him as a crutch. Just take your time and make sure you are ready. :) Oh, as far as posting(pictures, websites)...don't do it. You will be banned. And we want to keep up with you :bouncing:
Take care,
Sue

:bouncing:
well, it's been one weeek 3 days and I get my stitches out today.
I only have nondissolvable stitches in three toes I think.
The long bunion and tailor bunion stitches will dissolve I am told.
My worst day was two days post op,, after that only pain meds to sleep thru the nite.
I am anxious to get the other foot done!! At least I know what to expect and that is a GREAT relief!
My only regret is WAITING SO LONG TO GET THIS DONE !!!!!
Anyone else had the AChille's tendon get VERY sore, almost like someone had hit you on it?
Maybe its just because it is not getting flexed because of the flat shoe,,
its really sore, but nothing that is not manageable.
My foot looks so narrow and short now!
I think I had some arthritic problems too in that blasted big toe bunion.
so to recap I have a staple in the base big toe, two screws in the long bone of big toe joint, stitches no pins/screws in 3rd 4th toes where bone wedges taken out to straighten toes and stitiches along tailor bunion site at little toe.
I think that is all,, guess I will see it today at 2 pm!
I am GOING BONKERS not being able to drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THAT is the WORST PAIN OF ALL !!!!
