Yes in 3's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Goodness does prevail, like the saying "when things go wrong ..." never quit. We deserve this, long time coming. I felt like it was a death sentance, waiting to find out if I was going to be able to "live", now I know I will make it. Suffering in pain is bad enough but add financial and it is pure HELL. I always had Faith, if you do your best and believe and are honest truth will prevail. We were all of that and now justice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now take care of YOU and enjoy the next chapter of your lives , smile and spread your goodness on to others!!!! peace, cj

I've already been through the system, twice.

Originally I was put on SSD 10 years ago (took 11 months to get approved) due to severe arthritis, Ehlers Danlos Symdrome III with a crosslink to I, Fibro/CFS and depression (gee wouldn't you be depressed too?) and at that time had just had my hip replaced for the 4th time and various other goodies.

I was on it for about 6 years maybe when I started feeling really good again (as good as I could be) and decided to try to go back to work full time so I did for a very large Ins co as their webmaster. I was there a little over 1-1/2 years when my lumbar started to act up and I lost the feeling in my legs and I was put into a wheelchair.
They put me on part time work per doctors advice but then I resigned about a year and a half ago as my health got so bad, there were days my husband and son would have to help me walk to bed.

Because of how SS works you can work 1 year and be put back on SS with no problem, you also have another 4 years after that where you can be put back on it but do require medical records or an exam. The process is very fast at that point, it only took like 2 months or so for approval after an exam by their doctors. I had a halfwit caseworker who screwed up my case so bad it ended up actually taking 8 months to get my first check again. Trust me his boss got an earful when they sent the money to an account that was closed for years and I told him it was closed numerous times.

I'm fortunate though, my husband has a really good job so finances weren't too tight, towards the end it started to get tight but we were never in any danger of loosing our home or anything. The first time I applied however was a totally different story and I was in the situation you were.

I'm very happy for you! Things should be fairly smooth sailing for you going forward.

Actually the timing does not sound quite right. While receiving SSDI (Title II) Benefits, you are entitled to a nine (9) month trial work period (TWP) during which you collect your disability benefits as well as all of your wages. The TWP is cumulative meaning that if you work 1 month here and a year later, 2 more months, it all adds up to your nine month total. if you are still working at the end of the nine (9) month TWP you are then entitled to a 36 month period of extended eligibility. You are not entitled to disability benefits while working buty, if at any point during that period you feel you can no longer continue working, all you have to do is notify SSA and your benefits will be restored post haste. There is no need to file a new application or undergo any medical or psychological evaluation.

Thje foregoing does not apply to SSI (Title XVI) benefits.

The trial work period is a 60 month rolling according to the SSA site. And then the 3 year continuance if needed. Mine didn't roll because it was consecutive. However, when I did work they also add another 3 month period to the 9 month for a total of one year. I don't recall why that occured, but it was explained. During this period I still had to do a regular review to see if I was still qualified or not.

So in essance I retained my full benefits for a year while working, at the end of the one year my benefits stopped. After the 1 year (or my TWP) was over I had 3 years where I could request to have my benefits reinstated without having to apply again.

Also, you are required to fill out your regular review forms during your TWP and during the 3 year period, even if you are not using the benefits. This helps them to reinstate you. If you fail to fill out the paperwork your case will be close. This actually happened to me as I had a very dysfuncational CW handling my case. All paperwork was submitted and he convienantly lost them and forgot I needed my benefits reinstated. It took several months to correct.

Congratulations on winning your disability claim. I know from first hand experience how hard it can be waiting on that decision and how great it feels to finally get an award letter. funny though, I cried my eyes out when I got approved because I think it had finally truely hit me,that I was disabled. Strange I guess but true. Now you can concentrate more on your health and not have to worry about fighting for disability anymore. The one thing that really got me was when I won my case, I lost all my state insurance health protection and believe me, once labled disabled by social security your not gonna get private health insurance without it costing an arm and a leg.

Yeah isn't that grand.. you now make too much money to fit in their guidelines. My husband had it for a little while but then they said he didn't use it enough. In March he had a seizure and we had all of those bills and went and reapplied. He qualified FOR THAT MONTH ONLY. The caseworker asked him why he was dropped and he told her flat out "because I don't abuse your system and only go to the doctor when I have to." She didn't like that answer.

Yes Dee, I know what you mean, labled... I too got that same feeling. I had this overwhelming cloud of despair I will never be me again. But, hey, we did it all and just got an earlier retirement than most. Its just another chapter in life. I am holding on for the medicare to kick in not until next yr August I think? I have no insurance, have not for a couple months now, could not afford to keep it going. I still am waiting for the money, got the award letter but still waiting on the 2nd letter? and ck?
