I had a minor setback this week in regards to my ankle. I had a Brostrom Repair 8/03, but was not able to due much until 5/04. Anyway I had completed four weeks of PT, regaining much of my flexibility and was feeling pretty good about things. Then I went camping out of state w/ my family. First day there, my ankle rolled out on me on the loose gravel. There was some mild swearing at that moment. Well, I went and put on my soft brace (which I did pack just in case) and wore it for the next couple of days. The good news is that there was no bruising and when I took the brace off at night, it didn't swell, but boy did it ache. When we got back home I called my Dr. and explained what had happened. We decided that I need to go back for more PT to strengthen the ankle now and give me back my confidence to use it again and not be so protective of it. I was a little bummed that the ankle rolled after all I have been through. Well, back to PT once I get it approved by insurance.
Just wanted to share. Thanks for listening - eko

I'm very sorry to hear about your setback. I know it's frustrating to think that it's finally over and then have more problems. Just keep doing those exercises. Even after you finish the next round of PT, get exercises to continue with at home. And don't give up, it will heal eventually! Best of luck to you.

eko,
That is a bummer. I hope that everything is all right with the ankle. I have spent so much time in PT this last year and a half, the receptionist told me I could be an honorary therapist. Good thing I have a very good looking PT. LOL Actually I have been going this time for 3 months, (5 months since surgery) and it looks like I wont be stoping any time soon.

Ellen,
Sorry to hear about the ankle rolling. I know it is hard to suffer the setbacks. Just remember you are still better off today then where you were even a month or two ago. Let me know how the new round of PT goes.

:) Thanks for all of your words of encouragement! You are a wonderful group!
I have decided to end my pity party and go on with my recovery. My Dr. did have one positive thing to say and that he was thrilled I was using my ankle and foot. I use to be an avid walker before all my foot and ankle woes started a couple of years ago. Today I went out shopping for a new pair of shoes for walking (using a list of recommendations from my Dr.), the store did not have my size but is ordering it for me. I am going to start walking again like I use to. Slow but sure I am going to start and combined with PT I should be on the go once again.
Thanks again! I hope all of you are doing well too! -eko
