View Full Version : Mother Freaking Out, Baby Just Chipped Tooth

Okay, an hour ago my 13 month old was smacked in the head with a remote control. I couldn't see where it had hit (no mark) so we comforted him for about 5 minutes until he was happy again.

So I just noticed his front tooth, THAT HE JUST GOT, is now chipped pretty good. I don't think that there is nerves exposed as I can't see anything like that and he did drink a warm bottle and didn't seem phased...?

So I have 3 questions...

1. Should I go put some icecream on it and see if he screams? If he does, do I need to find a dentist tomorrow on Sat?

2. Can they or will they fix baby teeth? I mean, I don't want him to have a noticable chip on his front tooth until he's like 6 and looses it.

3. Could this possibly be considered "cosmetic" and not be covered by insurance?

Thanks in advance for any input on this, especially since I won't be able to speak to a dentist until Monday.

 sorry to hear about your lil guys tooth my suggestion is put it on some ice and just keep it in case they find a need for it which i dont think they will..i think the dentist will use a filler type material to fill the gap or he will cap it if youd like him to.. 9 out of 10 dentists will not make a huge fuss over the tooth since he is going to lose it over time any ways.. my daugher took a hard hit to the floor a few months ago and it was black and blue for a long while so i waited for the swelling to go down (a week maybe) called the dentist, he saw her and said she was probably going to lose the tooth and here it is a few months later and the tooth is still standing proud in her mouth ..lol i wish you and the little guy the best of luck and keep us posted on what they do for him

i think that insurance probably wont cover it unless you have got some really great coverage ;) You will know if it is bothering him, but you can always take him to the dentist just to check and see whats going on. Best of luck to ya, i'm sure everything will turn out fine!
