I think I should post this here insted of the Stroke board.

Hi I am new here.. I am a 40yr old Female, I had a stroke a yr ago..so pardon my errors in typing, my left side was affected. I have a mechanical heart valve and a clot formed on it causing the stroke.

I have come far in a year..its a long recovery. It has been a struggle emotionally as well as physically. I was not prepared for the mental recovery, forgetting things, short term memory problems, forgetting words..not being able to pronounce large words, still even now after a yr.

As a result of the stroke I was having seizures which I was not aware of. Staring into space is considered a small seizure. My brain felt foggy all day, it was as if life was passing me by and I was a spectator, a very strange feeling. At one point it felt like I was literally losing my mind. I saw the neurologist and they ran a MRI and an EEG. I was put on Lamictal slowly last September. I reached my maximum dosage in October. Which is 250mg a day
I find now I seem to have these small red spots on my face and other parts of my body, I am going to the dermatoligist to see what his opinion is. I have read with Lamictal you have to be careful of a rash during the beginning.

Has anyone had this experience with Strokes, Seizures and Lamictal?

Hi
My daughter is 13 and was just put on lamictal for seizures. I don't know a lot about it so far. I do know that if she gets a rash we are to call the doc imediately. After a point they go faster in increasing the dose because you are past where the rash usually starts. It may be something else after this long ,but I would still call my doctor imediately! Do not wait for the dermatoligist appointment call them.

Hi.

I agree with Debbie. See your Dr. Better safe than sorry. I have read a lot about Lamictal and the rash usually shows up in the first 2 to 8 weeks, but there have been cases that show up months or years later. My son has been on Lamictal for a couple of months now, and we just got up to the minimum dose they think will be effective. We have taken him in for every bump and cough since the beginning. They may hate to see us walk through that door, but I could never live with myself if I overlooked something. He did have a rash for about a week that we had never seen before. I still think it was related in some way, but it wasn't the "Stephens-Johnson" (sp?) Syndrome that they are worried about.

Good Luck,

Wendy

Yeah I'm on lamictal (as being weaned off carbatrol) and I'm over the hump of the SJS rash. In december I freaked out because a rash showed up on my wrist but it ended up being just excema(sp?) Definately ask your doctor but I don't think its the infamous rash.
