daniel Craig,
Many of us have been down the same road that you are on. For me it took 15 years to finally get the right diagnosis. Do keep in mind, I started having symptoms in the early '70's.......things are much different now.
There are several things that you can do:
1. Get copies of your records from your docs. This is your right and this is something that is very helpful for the new docs you will see. Get actual lab results, copies of MRI's, scans,....everything.
2. Choose a new doc. I tend to migrate to university medical centers. Sometimes it is hard to get an appointment, especially without a referral. I have used the tactic "show up in the ER and demand to see the neuro on call". It may not get you the doc that you actually want to continue with, but it does get your foot in the door.
3. Educate yourself about your symptoms.
4. Keep a journal re: Your symptoms, time, duration, meds, etc. Take it with you to the doc.
5. Engage in some kind of relaxation technique. If you need some suggestions, let me know. It is imperative that you get rid of some of the stress that all of this searching and not getting answers causes.
6. Choose to think positively. That IS something you can choose to do. I know some techniques that can help you to do that, if you have problems with it.
8. Don't give up.......you very life and well being are at stake.
9. Draw support from those around you (and us). Don't waste your time or energy on those you know who drag you down. You don't need any negativity around you. Choose to be around the positive and uplifting people in your life...you need to draw energy from them.
These aren't 9 Simple Rules to live by.......not by any means. But they are things that have helped me. It took me a long time to achieve some of the emotional stability that I have now. I was on the brink of suicide at one point in time....the whole L side of my body felt like it was on fire. Anything that touched me caused even more pain. Nothing was working and I knew that I couldn't live the rest of my life like that. Finally massive doses of Neurontin and Acupuncture helped. I am never completely pain free, but it is tolerable. I am one of the fortunate ones.
I hope that some of this can help you. If you have any questions, please ask. Know that I am sending good thoughts your way!
