My daughter has been complaining for about a week of very achey legs and arms, also very tired. She's seems to get this now and again this time lasting a longer time.
The first day she had a slight fever of 99.5. (no sore throat, no ear infection)
I brought her to the Dr. and he had her take blood work. Mentioned Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthrits and so on. He just didn't know why she is feeling like this.
I am waiting for the blood work to be done, which also includes lyme desease check. Does anyone know what this could be? Is there a virus that would just cause achiness and drowsiness?
Help?

i am sure that there are a lot of possibilities, and i hope that it is nothing serious! there is a chance that she is going through a growth spert. i dont know if the doctor has mentioned that, but i have heard of that happenening when children's bones are growing rapidly. The growth plate is growing really fast and the bone is not being produced fast enough to keep up. i hope that is all it is! please let us know what you find out in the results! take care!

I was going to mention the growth spurt too but also ask if she's getting enough sleep on a regular basis. I know when I was younger my legs would ache something fierce when I was really tired. It seemed to subside for several years but I've noticed within the last few months it's happening again. Have you tried putting heat packs on her legs? I've done that before and the heat helps the pain so in turn helps me sleep.

Thanks eveyone for your help.
Her Blood tests were normal!! She is now feeling better too.
I'm guessing this was a virus that settled in the muscles.
Maybe growing spurts, but everything I read about growing pains is the pain would be at night not all day long. But who knows, every child is different.
Thanks again!

I'm happy to hear she is fine.

My 5 year old cousin passed on because she had been complaining of sore legs and arms. My aunt and uncle ignored her and gave her pain killers. They brought her to doctors etc and they gave her more pain killers.

They were NOT serious about it until she started losing use of her legs and arms. They brought her in for testing, and when she got a Cat-scan they found a lemon sized tumor on her brain. They were unable to remove it. She died a week later.

I do appreciate your response but you have now scared the wits out of me. How terrible a thing to happen to your niece, I am so sorry about your loss.
I sure am hoping its not a brain tumor.... I dont think doctors do MRI's for aches and pains, at least I don't think it's routine.
I didn't wait on this, I took her to the doctor right away. I hope the blood tests being normal is a sign there are no problems like that. She does feel better now...
There must have been other symptoms besides achiness.... Brain tumor that big you would think so.
Wow you got be scared!!!

I'm terribly sorry to terrify you!!

I'm sure your little one is fine, a 5 year old can only complain in a certain way, where as a 9 year old has more of a choice of words.

I don't believe your daughter would have it, because there was also severe pressure in my neice's head (that was measured when they had some tests done). She obviously would have felt it, but wouldn't have been all that painful (like her arms and legs). Her pain did NOT go away, whereas your daughter's pain comes and goes.

I grew up fast and was 5'9" by the time I was 12, I seem to remember being sore and achy off and on quite a bit. I'm sure your daughter is just having her growing pains like your doctor had said.

My 7 yr old complains every now and then about achy legs. I do a massage and stretching routine on him. Especially his ankles. It seems to help and usually about a week or 2 later he is complaining his shoes are too tight. I think like another poster said it might be a growth spurt. I can defiantly tell he is growing all his pants from this spring are hi-waters. I hope your daughter feels better. You did the right thing taking her in and having it checked. Better safe than sorry. Have you tried massage. I do a warm bath for him first with lavendar oil (just a drop in the tub) and then just lotion for massage. He goes to sleep pretty fast after that and wakes up feeling better.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!! I had a friend that ended up in police custody because she "massaged" her child when he got achy.

The child told his sunday school teacher that mommy rubs him when he's sore. (rubbed his legs and arms).

Be careful how you touch your child... they don't understand that touching in certain areas (below the buttox, on the leg - not even anywhere near this "privates") is considered molestation to some people.

She lost custoy of her son because of something compltely innocent.

Yeah thanks for the advice, I rub his feet and ankles. We do leg stretches and thats about all. I suppose in this day and age we have to worry about just about everything.
