Moderator - if this post is not appropriate please remove it. Thank you

If you live in Ohio and are over the age of 18 and are disabled and have proof of disability such as an award letter from SS did you know you are eligible for a Golden Buckeye card? Non disabled folks get them at age 60 but disabled folks can get them at age 18. A lot of places offer discounts on stuff and some pharmacies do as well. This helps out if you pay full price for a prescription. One place where I used to live would allow me to ride their transit bus (that comes direct to your home) for free. I used to do this alot when I had therapy and couldn't drive.

You may get a funny look when you use it because most people just assume it's for those 60 and older but it isn't and I find I do have to explain this alot. Places I frequent often are now educated on the rules and I don't have any problems getting discounts and services

You can get the application filled out at a library or bank.

Thats good to know! I'm also in ohio. I have an older cousin w/CP... I'll be sure to pass on the info to him if he does not already know! Also, my son has CP and once he turns 18 that could be of good use to him. Thank you! :)

I had no clue !! No one ever explains stuff like that. I'm glad you shared, but how do you get one? I live in southern OH and could use one!
Thanks, Judy

Oops... I re-read your post and saw where you said to get it at a bank.. Sorry!! thx again. Judy

Yeah it's not something people just up and tell you about. I dont even remember how I found out honestly. But stop by a local bank and enquire if not a library will definately have what you need. BTW you need to take your SS award letter with you, the form isn't something you pick up and take back, they make you fill it out right there.

For those who have not been approved yet on SS get your doctor to write a note explaining you are disabled, they will accept it. You should get your card right away.

Wow! Had no idea. I'm in SE Ohio myself. I'm in the appeal stages of my disability but when I finally do get approved I'll have to check on that. Thanks!
