This is only my 2nd visit ever to the dentist and because of my bad tartar build up and broken teeth and white/pink/red gums, she is having me do 2 deep cleanings. half of my mouth this week and half next week.

they said they will numb me up. how long does this last? my best friend comes home from work around 5pm and if i'm done by 1:30pm, should i be able to eat dinner?

in general, i would really appreciate any advice at all about what i should expect, in terms of pain, what actually happens, how i'll look and feel afterwards.

thanks so much everyone,
Char

Hi Char, I had a deep cleaning on 2 quads. Because i had an infection the novacaine didn't work very long on the top so it took hours to do the cleaning. there was no pain but because i had my mouth open for so long, my jaw hurt and i had trouble opening my mouth very wide for 2 or 3 days after that. I could eat anything that wasn't too tall. The teeth were fine after but it was the jaw that hurt.

Hi..I had a deep cleaning done, but they only did one quad at a time, so I had to go back 4 times...I was very numb, they gave me alot of shots of novacaine, so I didnt feel a thing....I was numb for a few hrs, and I went in the early afternoon, but was able to eat dinner...I didnt really have pain, just kinda sore after wards for a few days, but I did warm salt water rinses and took ibuprofen...
