Hello all,

I am 27 years old and was diagnosed with optic neuritis 3 years ago. Since then I have had several bouts and have done steriod treatments 5 times. Although I present with many symptoms besdies optic neuritis, tingling, weakness, numbness, extreme fatigue and heat sensitivity my MRI's have been clean as well as my LP. MY new neurologist, who is my 5th has put me on Avenox. ALthough I has been working I am still haveing bouts of optic neuritis and accompnaying symptoms. I technically do not have the MS dx b/c I have no lesions yet I am responding to tx. It is vey frustrating b/c I am unable to have any other tx's besides avenox b/c I don't have the dx. Has anyone else expereined this?

Hi there. Sorry to hear your having such a hard time getting a diagnosis. Although you suspect MS, have you thought about the fact that MS is mimicked in many different diseases? I don't know if you have been tested for thyroid or fybromialgia (or the many, many other mimckers) but you may want to head in that direction as you may be surprised. If you don't mind me asking, why have you had so many different neurologists? I have one, but maybe I'm the abnormal? :) I (luckily?) had a quick diagnosis (about a year), but I do know that there are many people who have struggled, as you are. Hopefully you'll get some sort of answers soon. Good luck!

I am sorry to hear of your problems with diagnosis, I am sorry but i can offer you no help myself. But I am curious, how long did each of your bouts with optical neuritis last?

I have gone to 3 neurologists for opinions and then I moved to another state, that is why I had so many. I have been with my current neruologist for 2 yrs and love him. I have been dx w/ fibromylagia and have been r/o of many, many other possible casues for my symptoms. THank you for your response. Hope all is well with you.

Each bout lasted from a few weeks to a few months, each time my vision comes back less. Hope all is well with you
