I hope someone can help me understand this. My son was DX with IgG subclass deficiency about 2 years ago. He was deficient in IgG4. Well he just had his labs done again and today we got the results. IgG4 is now normal but IgG1 is low. He also had his pneumococcal titers checked and its not showing. He had the vaccine October (i think). Its like he didnt get the vaccine at all. He is still Dx with IgG subclass deficiency and is going to see an Immunologist in August. Has anyone ever heard of a deficiency switching? Like from IgG4 to IgG1? Oh ya forgot to mention his total IgG is in normal range.
Thanks Melissa

Hi.......hope that I can be a little help here.
I do know that sub-class titers can vary. I don't know why, but I know that mine are up and down. It has not been so bad since I started on the IVIG.
The fact that he did not develope pneumococcal antibodies is not uncommon in those with immune deficiencies. In fact, that is one of the tests that they did on me in route to a diagnosis....skin tests for a variety of things that I know I have had vaccinations/shots for. Only a few of them showed that I had any immunity.
I'm sure the immunologist will be much more help! Keep us posted!
Good thoughts to you!

Penny,
Thanks for replying! I didnt think I was going to get one. He hasnt had any skin tests as of yet. Lots of labs and a test for cystic fibrosis(he got tested twice for that). When he was first dx with the deficiency the pulmonary doc mentioned that he may need IVIG, that was over a year ago. At the time we opted to wait a year and see if his immune system matured seeing it was only his IgG4 that was low. Im not sure if the immunologist will be thinking the route of IVIG, he has been healthy lately. Thanks again
