Hi everyone
I am now 5 weeks post op from TILF with BMP. I am doing I guess ok with pain but my main issue is with energy....or lack thereof anyway. I mean, taking a shower and drying my hair and I'm back in the bed for an hour. I'm 27 and was very active before this surgery. Is this normal...or have I just become lazy? Are there any things that I can do to increase my stamina? I was hoping to get back to work in the next couple of weeks, but at this pace, it wouldn't be much use. Take care all!
Thanks!

Take it easy on yourself....your body has been through an ordeal and it takes time to heal and gather strength. Try short walks two or three times a day with rests in between. There is a real fine line between doing too much and not doing enough. Take things a little at a time....have your shower and hairdo....rest for half hour, then take a short walk, rest again...you get the picture.
Good luck, and heal well.

Hi there! I am 2 wks post op ALIF L4-L5, age 33 with 4 boys ages 6, 4, 3, 1 1/2. I struggle with energy too because I REALLY need it to keep up with my boys! But I have found that doing what Carol suggested is right on target. I get up in the morning, get myself around and take a short walk, about 1/3 mile then come back and rest. The up again to do some light housework, get lunch started, another 1/3 mile and then nap time!! Get up, a little more housework, dinner, short walk then get ready for bed. Those short walks, adding up to about a mile, really give the the energy I need. I always feel better after a short walk. And my dr said that's just what we need for our backs.
Ease your way into it. You'll be feeling better in no time! Keep a positive attitude, also, that really helps.
God bless,
Elaine

I don't exactly have an answer for you but I do know that this is normal. Your body is using all its energy to heal itself. It is normal to feel this way and everyone is different in terms of when they 'come around'. Give it time, you'll get there.
I remember when I had my first fusion at 17, I sat at my vanity and cleared it off just putting things in their place and I was beat! I was so tired after about 5 minutes of 'redding up' that I had to hit the sack to about an hour.
