i made a post about a week ago stating that i thought i might have hpv. well, i went to the doctor's today and she confirmed my worries...i do in fact have genital warts :( she found two i guess, and now i have to have them removed.

my question to anyone here who might know, is how much is this going to hurt and what will i be going through? she's removing them by laser...i guess i will be going under light anastesia and about a 15 minute surgery. someone will be driving me to and from the hospital, and i've been told i need to take that day and the day after off of work because i might have some mild bleeding and pain. i'm a little worried, but not as worried as i was today when she said she was gonna take them off right there in the office...she was going to put acid on them and she said it was going to hurt a lot  however, she then decided that removing them by laser would be better, and i've had surgery a few times before, so i'm not nervous about that...i'm just nervous about the fact that now i have this virus and i'll never be able to get rid of it. i kind of feel dirty for it :(

any stories, advice, knowledge, or just word of wisdom would be greatly appreciated...thank you.

Hi, sorry to hear about your worries. I don't know much about what to expect in having them removed. I can relate however because I found out last december that I had genital warts. Im a white male of 31 years of age. I have only had one one-night stand and that was when I contracted the virus. I felt extremely guilty because I had had unprotected sex. I NEVER have unprotected sex. In fact, I've only had sex with four women in my life. So the fact that I contracted it, really made me angry at myself. I felt dirty, repulsive, guilty and sad. So when you said that you feel dirty...I CAN RELATE! But, the good news is that I have gotten over it. I still feel a little angry with myself, but nothing like I did at first. I took some medication and an ointment to get rid of mine, so I can't tell you anything about surgery. I just had to accept that once I contracted the virus there was nothing I could do about it, and actually I was lucky....lucky that I didn't contract something more serious. I learned a valuable lesson. I wish I didn't have the virus, but compared to everything I could have caught, this virus isn't that big of a deal. So relax. You are NOT dirty! I hope my experience at least helped you relaize that you are not alone. If you have any questions or need someone to talk to let me know.

Sorry to hear about your warts. A friend of mine had some removed and she said it kinda hurt. Sorry...being honest!

I just have to say this. Remember that whatever you did that exposed you to warts could also expose you to HIV. Don't mean to lecture but its true. Just please be careful. Its scary out there.

I just need to correct my last post. What I was trying to say is that if you got warts from unprotected sex you are taking a risk of also getting Aids. You can get warts from skin on skin contact...don't have to have intercourse. However, I was "assuming" you got them from unprotected sex. Maybe you didn't. I hope I'm making sense....its way past my bedtime!

Best wishes,

my surgery was 2 hours and done under a general anestehtic. It was awful. I was out of work for almost two months because I couldn't walk. I only say this so you can compate it to your light-15 minute procedure. :-P It is best to get these taken care of before they get so bad. Good luck!!!!

Hmm all these ways of removal are intesting. The way they removed mine was just by dabbing some acid on them and they just kind of got burned away. IT HURT REAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLY bad. I don't know how much the other ways of removal feel but it seems the acid or the freezing is the easiest. Good Luck.
