Hello everyone, I am new to this board, but I have been reading posts from it for a few weeks now and I found it to be very useful so I signed up for it. I am 21 years old and have had absolutely no health problems my entire life until about 3 months ago. I started having this strange pain in my upper abdomen and lower chest. My symptoms range from moderate to severe. It seems to be somehow related to eating as it usually gets worse after meals. There seem to be no particular foods that trigger it. One day I can eat a certain food, the next day I can't. The problem is that the pain has gotten so severe at times that it wakes me up from sleep, prevents me from eating, keeps me away from social activities, and it has even caused me to have to get up and walk out of class. Sometimes the pain is so bad that I double over and can hardly move. It sometimes hurts so bad that I can't even swallow water. What is weird is that I wake up in the morning feeling fine, and gradually get worse until by the evening I am absolutely crippled. Some other things I have noticed is that my stomach is constantly growling, spasming, shifting, and grumbling. This occurs throughout my entire digestive tract, but the pain is usually limited to my upper abdomen. I've been seeing a GI doc and have had the following tests: blood, urine, stool, H. pylori, gallbladder ultrasound, CCK and Hida, upper GI series, small bowel follow-through, and upper endoscopy. All came back negative, so my GI doc says it must be functional dyspepsia. This is really frustrating because I can't believe such pain can appear out of nowhere and go on for this long without anything being wrong. I am a college student and I did live a pretty unhealthy lifestyle like poor diet, tons of alcohol, smoking cigarettes, smoking pot, but so does evey other student I know and they are all fine. I have since fixed my bad habits, no more smoking or alcohol and a new diet. This has had no effect on my symptoms though which seem to have gotten worse. I have also been on prilosec and levbid for muscle spasms. Neither helped at all. I am currently on 40 mg protonix twice a day which hasn't helped at all. I am thinking about trying magnesium and calcium and maybe even mastica because I am getting fed up. Anyways, sorry to type so much, but I was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat and what, if anything, you do for your symptoms. Thanx.
