You know when kids are toddlers they have a round protruding tummy? Well, my twin daughters still have theirs and they are 7 years old! They are not so big elsewhere, just their tummies. I assume it is just their muscle tone that needs to get good enough to hold it in. When will it happen and is their anything I can do to help it along. They are fed up with having the biggest tummies in their class and waistbands not fitting them. I have to buy age 10 trousers and take them up. They are quite active and do lots of swimming.

You should discuss their weight with your pediatrician. I have a 7 year old and she is pretty slim, no belly at all. i know some children who are slightly overweight tend to gain in the belly, and if that is the case, you need to look at their diet. The biggest culprit is fast food. I live in the south, and childhood obesity is an epidemic around here, so I would first make sure that your doctor agrees that they are at a healthy weight. By about 3 or 4 their distended bellies should have disappated. With toddlers, the issue is abdominal muscle, at that age it may actually be the beginning of being overweight. People gain weight differently, and having belly fat and thin limbs occurs with some. Talk to the pediatrician, look at diet, and keep the kids healthy. Good luck.

Thanks ashea, you have reassured me. Actually they do stand with their tummys sticking out, which makes it worse and they also have my 'hollow' back. Poor loves!
