View Full Version : Recommendation for a good TENS unit?

Reading down through my health insurance policy, it looks as though my insurance company will pay for a TENS unit for chronic or post-operative pain. Can any of you recommend a good TENS unit? Reading through the various threads on this site, it looks as though they vary greatly in quality, construction, and effectiveness.

------------------
Two level laminectomy fusion L5-S1 & L2-3 done on 12/6/02.
I regret the day that I agreed to have this surgery.
Fifteen inch scar from the very top of butt crack (sorry), to the bra line.
BAK cages, rods & screws.(Titanium)
My pelvic bone was used for grafting.
Praying that the other two discs in between, won't have to be fused later, as I was told it was a possibility, due to the other two discs in between, not being in that great of shape.
Doc didn't want to fuse four levels, unless it is really necessary.
I would hate to repeat the surgery, as the recovery period, is so very painful.
I also have a herniation and free fragment in my T11-12 area, that I'm still refusing surgery for, at this point in time.
That surgery is way too dangerous for me to consider, until if affects my being able to walk.

I use a Bio-Stim LX. FYI the woman at the store advised me that they're all pretty much the same except for the "bells and whistles". (ie timer, pulse etc) Mine is an middle of the line at app $375.00CA. If you need to submit an estimate to your insurance co make sure they include the replacement electrodes (app 3-4 pairs per/yr) and batteries. After all was said and done it came to app $600.00CA (we pay tons of tax!) You can usually rent one for a month (the cost of which they wil deduct from your purchase) to see if it works for you or which kind you like.
You should have an appt with a physio therapist or similar to show you the settings and instruct you how to use it....Tagger

I use the Pocket Therapist which has helped me tremendously. I only paid $139.95 plus shipping. I was told that this unit it comparable to the high-end units but is priced reasonably as the company is also the manufacturer so there are no middle costs. It is covered by most private insurance plans. It's a great system and is very compact. You can order on-line at www.futurehealthproducts.com. (http://www.futurehealthproducts.com.) It is also available through chiropractors, massage therapists and physiotherapists.
