Thanks you all for your help. I went in today...found out I wasn't getting it done until the beginning of august!!! UGH. Also my insurance dosn't cover root canals so they said that it would be $1,200, I've never been to this dentist before, since i just recently moved, so I don't know if i should trust him. And if so, I was wondering if getting it pulled would be any cheaper. If anyone knows help me PLEASE

Which tooth is it? That maybe seems a hair costly, though not much more than I remember (I had insurance, so I really just know what I had to pay ;) ). I think my last root canal was like $700 on my bicuspid. Of course, price does also differ in different areas and molars are more expensive than incisors. Does this also include the restoration? Crowns are advised on teeth that have had root canal treatment as the tooth becomes very brittle. ANYWAY, shopping for the cheepest dental treatment is not the best idea, so if you like this dentist and he seems caring and qualified, I would trust him. The one thing I would do though is ask about his policy if the tooth needs a retreatment, which is not all to uncommon (though not particularly likely) with root canals. I would hope, especially since you are going to have to pay for this out of pocket, that he would help with that risk. Nothing worse than having to pay for TWO root canals on the same tooth!
Good luck with all of this!

My root canal last week cost about $1100. that was in LosAngeles without the crown part and on a molar in a costly part of town.(Plus a consult fee of $180) I had to chose between pulling the tooth or root canal but i am trying to save as many teeth as possible. The cost for me would be about the same if i got an implant later. When I spoke to my dentist, I found out that getting an implant doesn't mean the end of your problems...you still have to take as good care of them, and a bridge or denture has problems too. But it depends what is wrong with your tooth. Your dentist should be able to give you an idea how well he/she thinks that tooth will do. Mine said the tooth should last at least 20-30 years after a root canal.
