Im 31 and Im not sexually active. I have never used birth control pills expect for a couple of months once for treating acne. Never had babies
Am I considered to be in a risk group for ovarian cancer so far? When is it if you have not have kids and not using birth control that ovarian cancer is a risk? Should I be put on birth control pills to prevent risk of ovarian cancer now even if I dont plan on being sexually active at the moment?
I will appreciate answers

Hi there ladivapr.
The biggest risk factor for ovarian cancer is family history. The second is being a carrier of the BRCA1 or BRCA 2 gene. Now I know what you're thinking, those genes are breast cancer genes. Yep...they put one at risk for ovarian cancer as well.
Now for the other risk factors. The more ovulations a woman has in her life, the more at risk she is for ovarian cancer. Why? Because each time the ovary undergoes ovulation, it is slightly injured...any injury at the cellular level poses a possible nidus for the formation of a malignant mutation which can result in cancer. So anything that stops ovulation (i.e. pregnancy, oral contraception) is protective against Ovarian CA. That said, just because you've never been pregnant or on the pill doesn't necessarily mean you're at high risk for ovarian cancer.
Is there any history of breast of ovarian cancer in your family? Have you ever had cancer in the past?

There is no history of ovarian cancer in my family. And my periods have always been regular. No cancer in the past. Thing is I don't plan on having sexual intercourse until I marry so I don't need birth control at the moment but my friend has little scared me I should use the pill because of the risk for ovarian cancer. But I know the pill while it protects you from ovarian cancer put you at risk for other problems like circulatory problems and I have heard for breast fibroids so Im confused then if its worth I use the pill for protecting against OC when I don't need to use it for contraceptive purposes.

Tell your friend to stop scaring you. Hey, I have testicles, and yes, the fact I keep them does put me at risk for testicular cancer. You have no family history of ovarian or breast cancer, and you are young (oh yeah, I forgot, age is another big risk factor for ovarian CA). Your chances of getting cancer by not being pregnant or going on the pill is minute. I say go on the pill when you are ready. Don't let your friend scare you in to doing something you don't want to do.
