I have applied for SSD and have been awaiting the decision. So far I have only been sent to a psychiatrist appointment for my depression. (I have had three lumbar surgeries for stenosis, spondy, DDD and failed fusion; also am holding out as long as possible for knee replacement surgery.)
I've been checking the SSD website page... using my password given to me and SS#... been checking to see if I have been approved.
Today the page said that a decision has been made on my claim.
I haven't been seen by their medical doctor..... so I'm assuming.... hoping and praying that my claim has been approved.
Ya think????

That would be great if it were approved but don't get your hopes up too high. It is quite common to be denied the first try and I'd hate to see you extremely let down.
You could possibly call your local office and enquire on the decision they may tell you over the phone.

SSA employees are forbidden by law to give out information regarding the approval or denial of any specific claim for benefits. It is only to be done by written decision. I generally recommend that you expect the worst and hope for the best.

Thanks for the responses, Kissa and Purplebill. Yea, I'm coming down off my initial high hopes. I have a sick, sinking feeling that my claim has been denied. Just assumed I would be scheduled for an evaluation with their medical doctor.... and THEN be denied.... or approved. Awwww... this is just torture.

It may be against company policy for employees of SSA to give a determination by phone but mine most certainly did. She called and left a message on my answering machine that said "congratulations mrs.___ I am just calling to let you know that you have been approved" and she went on to leave the dates of importance. I was home, laying on my sofa full of pain meds at the time and just did'nt even care to get up and get the phone. Took several hours for it to really sink in that my fight was finally over and I returned the phone call just to make sure that I had heard correctly. That was six months ago and I still have that message on my machine. Best of luck with your fight to get benefits.

 Hi, I too received my notification of approval over the phone!!! The message was left on my answering machine with instructions to return the caseworkers call. I did and again she told me I had been approved and that a letter was forthcoming.
Don't give up hope!

While it might be against the rules caseworkers are breaking them. Mine let me know when everything was completed and when the check should of been mailed.

My caseworker did the same thing as the rest of you. He told me I had been approved over the phone. He congratulated me, told me when I would get my first check, how much it was going to be, and verified my bank account numbers.

My husband's caseworker didn't come right out and tell him that he'd been approved, however called asking banking information which was a dead give away.

Sometimes the DDS and shrink are all they need to make a favorable decision. Did the shrink make you take tests?
