Pilates is mostly for toning. Or at least mine is, I just do the basic Pilates. I've changed my diet to lose weight (I've lost 15 pounds so far) and I use Pilates to tone.

Diet and exercise are the only things that will make stomach fat go away. No matter how much you exercise one particular part, you cannot lose the fat from just that one part. Pilates will make the muscles stronger under the fat, but it will not make you look any thinner. I do suggest doing them, though. The benefits in terms of flexibility and strength are very important.

Don't lose hope. If you do the tapes, it will definitely help you lose weight by increasing the amount of muscle. And muscle burns fat. Incorporate the pilates with cardio and sensible eating and you WILL lose weight.

There is no such thing as toning. You will never find the word 'toning' in a medical textbook. Toning is a word marketing people in the weight loss industry came up with. The industry targets women and they know that women are afraid to lift weights or do any kind of resistance exercise out of fear of getting bulky. So they came up with 'toning' to make women think you can reshape muscles and burn the fat covering them. Sorry, but that's just spot reduction which is a myth. Pilates is good for improving flexibility and muscle control, but it doesn't burn many calories and it doesn't build muscle. Treat it as something to do in addition to cardio and weight training, not a substitute for either.

i got my pilates on thrursday and i have used it 3 times now and it is acctually hard to do because it burns i think it will work though because i feel the burn in my stomach and in my hips an thighs.... i think that if i went on a diet and put some running in with it or something than i will start to look good...

i have a question though.... ( not about pilates)

okay on friday i ate a bowl of cerial and then at 1:30 i had a cinimon roll with milk... and then i went and stayed the night at my friends house and we were like outside until 2 in the mourning and we were like walking and running and stuff while we were haning out because one of our friends got really drunk so like we were messing with her and trying to get her under controll and she would run off towards the trailot park so we were chasing after her like all night.... but any ways today on saturday at 1 i ate a burrito with sour cream and a pepsi and i went into the bathroom and i weighed myself and i weighed 5 pounds less!!! am i going to stay 5 pounds down or when i eat a meal am i going to weigh the same again?? i want to stay 5 pounds down and work from there do you think i will or was it just because i had only ate 1 time in like 24 hours???

You can't lose 5 pounds in 24 hours. To lose 5 pounds of actual fat, you would have to burn 17,500 calories more than you took in which you did not do yesterday, no matter how much you ran around and played. Alcohol dehydrates, and you didn't eat anything. The weight will come back as soon as you eat or drink, which is a good thing! It's not healthy to drain your body of the fluids it needs and deprive it of food. You do more harm than good that way.

i know but the weird thing is that i have had 2 meals since then and i havnt gained 1 pound of it back like when i came home yesterday i had a burrito with a pop and for dinner i had this tuna sanwhich with sour cream and cheese and it was grilled in butter and i had potato salad with it too.... i havnt gained any of it back yet...

i havnt ate breakfast yet and i probably wont im not really hungary... for some reason when i was at my friends house and i didnt eat i wasnt hungary and since then i havnt been hungary when i dont eat a meal.... before i went to her house i couldnt stop eating!!! and now i like have control over eating or not... its weird... of course i am going to eat just not as much and not as often... maybe i can lose some weight by doing this and doing pilates everyday....

No offense but i think that is such a bad idea. If you do this then as soon as you start eating normal again you will pile the weight back on. And as for not eating and not being hungry, that has something to do with your metabolism. To set your metabolism off you need to eat. eg, I find that if i skip breakfast i can last untill about 4:00pm but if i have breakfast i feel hungry again by 11:00am because my metabolism is working.
