Hi everyone,
After three years of infertililty (mostly due to a huge fibroid I had removed in January) we are finally starting our first treatment cycle of Clomid + IUI. I had my base line ultrasound and blood work yesterday and it was a long day of just waiting to see if we could finally start the clomid or if there was yet something else wrong (last year when we were about to start the same cycle I found out about the fibroid which had to be removed so things have been on hold since then). I got the good news that all is a go and I started taking clomid last night (100mg). Anyone take it and if so, how did it make you feel? So far I don't feel any side effects. One thing my blood test showed was that my TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) was slightly high meaning the thyroid is slightly underactive. Anyone have that? I will be retested in a week. The nurse said normal is .4-4 and mine was 4.3 so it's not that high. Also this wednesday I am having an HSG to check my tubes. I've heard different things from different people about how painful this is, some say it's not and some say it's horrible. Anyone want to share their experiences? I have had a sonohystogram and that wasn't bad (is it similar, but worse?)
So does anyone have any stories about their experiences with clomid + IUI? I am not too optomistic about it, but we're just so excited to finally get to start something. My RE said he would try this three times and if it doesn't work we have to move to IVF and stuff.
Thanks in advance for any info!

Hi there Stacy! I did an IUI last week with Follistim and an HCG trigger shot. Now I am in the middle of the yucky waiting game! I have never taken Clomid so I am sorry that I can't help you there. I have a friend whose dr told her "the only thing we can predict about Clomid is that it is completely unpredictable - all women are diff. and react diff" - I know that doesn't help much either. I had an HSG done 2 days before my IUI. My story is a bit different than yours, but I have been through lots of other tests too (lap, hysteroscopy, had to wait after an U/S to start a treatment cycle) and to me the HSG was not that big of a deal - wasn't what I would call enjoyable, but not all that bad either and pretty darn fast! :) I took some advil before and that really helped. Congrats on finally getting to this stage....I know how hard it is to have to wait to start a process! Keep us posted - I'll be sending sticky baby vibes your way!

Thank you for your reply. I hope your two week wait seems to go quickly and most of all I hope your IUI worked!
I feel a little better about the HSG now. I am more nervous that they'll tell me my tubes are blocked and then the IUI would be cancelled than about the pain. I also am doing the HCG Trigger shot (ovidrel).
Took my second day of clomid yesterday and it seems to have no effects on me (hope it has an effect on my ovaries though!)
Good luck with everything and thanks again! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I took Clomid and IUI and had no side effects, except some slight bloating. Nothing major at all. But everyone is different. I've heard some people have horrible experiences with it.

I also had an HSG and it was the worst thing I've ever experienced in my life. I had some slight blockages that they forced open and the pain was excrusiating. I was dizzy, nausious and hot. It was horrible. Within about a half hour I was ok with just mild cramps. By that afternoon, I was fine and just had some mild spotting. But I've heard alot of people say an HSG is no big deal at all. Generally if you have any blockages, it's a much more painful experience...so it all depends. I hope yours was okay!!

Good Luck with the Clomid.

Hi ,
I have had two rounds of repronex and an HCG trigger shot ovidrel that have failed does anyone think i should look it getting IUI along with the drugs to better the chance of getting pg. As far as we know there is nothing wrong with DH. the problem is with me i just do not ovulate on my own due to anorexia a few years back ,

Thanks

Thanks Stephanie! My hsg was not bad at all. I was so surprised because I expected horrible things. But I thought the hysteroscopy and saline sonogram were both worse. I didn't have any blockages so that's probably why. You poor thing, that must have been awful!
Sadend, the only thing I have heard about clomid (and i don't know if it's the same for repronex) is that it could make your mucous thick and not good for transporting the sperm. That's why IUI can make it better because you bypass that. Probably wouldn't hurt to look into it, but I don't know if it makes that much of a difference. This is just my first cycle.
Good luck to you both!

Hi there Stacy! I am glad you got through your HSG with flying colors!

And Stephanie - I am so sorry it was so yucky for you and really glad that it helped with some unblocking.

The good news for all of us is that our HSG's are OVER!!!!!!!! :bouncing:
