Any thoughts or info. on my son who tends to blink both eyes. It seems as if he does it much more after being outside for awhile. It is getting excessive enough that I am going to call an eye dr., but have no optical insurance and wondered if I should just see family dr. He passed a basic eye exam at the health dept. a year ago before going into kindergarten. He doesn't complain about them. He has just been learning to read this year and doesn't seem to complain then either. thanks for any advice/thoughts

I don't think a visit to an optometrist, as opposed to an ophthalmologist, is very expensive (but I guess that is relative to how much money you have). Blinking is a quite common habit in children.

Gee, I don't really know the difference between the 2. I am PRAYING that it is just a habit, or dry eyes/allergies. I have wore glasses for the past 7 years (since age 26) and it can be a pain and big expense.

A lot of young kids have "ticks" or habits that they out grow. Blinking can be one. Have you ever noticed some people on TV blink a lot more than others. Dr. Phil has a habit of blinking alot at times. Your son could have this.
Then again maybe the sun is too bright for him and he needs sunglasses.
The difference between an optometrist and an opthalmalogist is the optometrist prescribes glasses and the opthalmalogist treats diseases of the eyes. The opthalmalogist can determine if your son needs glasses and if there is something medically wrong with your son's eyes. So it would be wise to go to an opthalmalogist. A lot of insurances cover the opthalmalogist if you are going for a medical reason. They usually don't cover the optometrist because they mainly handle glasses. I would call your insurance company first.
Gee thanks! It never would hurt to call and ask the insurance company like you said. Thanks again for the info. too.
