Hi,

Present your question on the bowel disorders board on this site with more details so that your queries can be answered in a way that will be helpful to you.

It's called Crohn's Disease...an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that is also autoimmune related. It's caused by a variety of triggers, many not fully understood and disputed. There are many schools of thought on it's causes and treatments.

It can affect the patient anywhere in the digestive tract from the mouth to the anus. It affects the whole wall thickness of the digestive tract and can affect different areas at the same time.....(skip areas) with undiseased tract between.

Accompanying it there are other physical manifestations such arthritis, liver/kidney disease, eye disorders, skin disorders...but not everyone suffers from these.

Surgery to remove the diseased tract do not stop Crohn's from appearing in other areas.

There are many medications that are used in treatment...5ASA (oral/rectal), steroid (systemic/topical), immunosuppressants, immunomodulators...

some basic info.

Hope this helps,
quincy

Quincy is right it is a Bowel Disease and I think one of worse and very serious condition but the spelling is Crohn's. If you even think you have it -- you need to be checked by a Gastro Doctor!!!

Do you by any chance mean Crohn's disease? This is one of the inflammatory bowel diseases along with ulcerative colitis. It is thought to be autoimmune in nature, meaning that the body's immune system is attacking its own tissue...in this case, usually the small bowel (though you can have involvement of anywhere from the gums to the bum. Usually the disease follows a course of flareups and a variable amount of time where the disease is silent. The symptoms are painful abdominal cramping as well as bloody diarrhea. Depending on how bad it is, patients can be treated with different types of drugs which suppress the immune system so that the symptoms stop. Unfortunately, many of these drugs have side-effects. If the disease gets very bad and is unresponsive to therapy, surgery can be done to take out sections of diseased bowel. With Crohn's unfortunately, taking out a diseased portion of bowel doesn't mean that other parts of the bowel can't be affected in the future. With Crohn's you can also have a combination of symptoms outside of the GI tract which include: the eyes, the joints and skin. There is also an elevated chance of developing colon cancer (though not as high as with ulcerative colitis).

There are many medications that are used in treatment...steroid (systemic/topical),

I hope I don't sound dumb asking this: but how do you use a topical steroid with Crohn's?

By the way, I wanted to apologize for my first post in this thread. When I opened it up, I didn't realize I was on the second page and that so many people had already answered. I don't want to step on anyone's toes.

Its an inflammatory bowel disease, symptoms can be Abdominal pain & bloating after meals, sores in the anal area, high fever, loss of appetite, maybe weight loss, bloody diarrhea or vomiting. You can have different tests to conclude whether or not you have it. Barium enema, Endoscopy, stool tests or a CT Scan.

As said, any part of your digestive tract can be affected. Its often found in the intestines, usually where the colon and small intestine meet, all layers of your digestive tract can be inflamed, including lining, inner and outer walls.

You can help control it through diet management, medication, and try to cut down on your stress level.

Hope that helps.
