View Full Version : wondering about botox injection for anal fissure

Hi everybody,

I am suffering from an anal fissure right now and am now considering a botox injection and a fissurectomy. I have been suffering from this for over a year but I thought the rectal pressure I was having was from my very enlarged uterus. I just had a hysterectomy in June and the rectal pressure is not gone. I have seen a colo-rectal surgeon 2 times and he says it is a fissure and my internal sphincter muscles are very tight. I have tried to use a cream for over a month and can't tolerate it (very irritating to the skin) and have been taking metamucil daily and drinking lots of water, so now that I am still having rectal pressure he is now suggesting the fissurectomy and botox injection into the muscle. I guess I was wanting to hear from anyone who has done this and does it work? How long was the healing time and how bad is the pain? Also I was just wondering if anyone else had rectal pressure when sitting or laying down from their fissure or is that not associated with a fissure? (pressure that is) Any comments would be greatly appreciated! I have had enough surgery for a while but the pain is horrible and if this works I am willing to do it!

Thanks again! :)

To reair a fissure is a proven surgical procedure. I just don't like injections of poisons any place and especially around or in my anus that has to open and close daily. Once it is done you can't take it back---- just wish you had not done it.

I would have to think about it along time. But, I am a person that will change Gastro doctors at the first sign of incompatence. I have seen 8 in 10 years -- some too young & inexperienced and only 2 very good. One was in an emergency situation.

My suggestion--- get at least 2 more opinions. Then decide. You got a long time to live with your rectum/anus.

God bless---Harry

Hello Shouldbehappy,
I have an anal fissure as well and my doctor has also recommended Botox. I'm very hesitant to go through with it. Have you had yours since you posted? I've had a few surgeries down there already for hemorrhoids and I head the botox can actually create thrombosed hemorrhoids. It's kind of a catch-22. Let me know if you've heard anything else since you posted and good luck!
Thanks.
