I have CTS and i just went to the surgeon 2 days ago and he gave me a cortisone shot. He also put me on a anti-inflammatory medicine because i have Tendonitis in my neck and shoulders. The name of the medicine is Nabumetone which is generic for Relafen. My problem is i am in more pain now since he gave me the shot and put me on the medicine. I also have to wear 2 wrist supports and do my therapy. My hands are very swollen and the pain is unbearable. I have felt no relief at all i am just getting worse, i can hardly bend my fingers very painful. I am not scheduled to go back to see him for another 3 weeks, but there is no way im going to make it that long. I wish he would have just scheduled surgery and got it done and over with. He said he would not give me another shot if not better in 3 weeks we would do the surgery. I wonder if maybe i am having a allergic reaction to the medicine or the shot? Anyone else experience anything like this ?

thanks for any advice Jan

i honestly think the cortisone shot is a waste of time. it doesn't cure the problem, it postpones it. i wouldn't let them give me cortisone, i said i just wanted the surgery. you may very well be having a elergic reaction if it's swelling cause i know when my step mom had a cortisone shot she didn't swell at all. but dont take my word for it, im not sure. you should really call and tell your doctor you need to see him sooner. and you should really just get the surgery. it really does help. good luck.

Hello, I had a cortisone shot in my shoulder. I walked out of the office singing because I felt so great. I didn't know that was only the medication that was numbing my shoulder. Within a few hours I was out of my mind in pain. It was unbearable for the first night and then SLOWLY over the course of a week I was back to my original pain level, which then seemed much more manageable. (I think that is their plan, ha..."You think it hurts now? I'll show you pain!")
